Police Officers fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a large number of university students who staged a protest march by blocking the Galle road in Colpetty this evening caused heavy traffic congestion in the area.The protesting university students had toppled the road barricades used by the police to avoid protest march proceeding further
The Protest March which began from Sri Jayawardanapura University Premises this morning was heading towards Prime Minister's official residence Temple Trees at the time of the incident.
The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) organized the protest march by demanding to increase the university intake and against the Private Medical Collage in Malabe.
