Four Elephants including an elephant calf were killed as they had been collided with a running passenger train near Madu (in northern province) in the wee hours of this morning.This tragic accident had occurred the railway stations between Madu and Chettikulam areas while the herd of elephants was walking across the newly upgraded railway line that runs through a jungle area it has been reported.According to the reports one of the baby elephants among the herd had been dragged away around 300 meters along the rail track after being hit by the train.
This was reported as the worst accident in Sri Lankan history involving animals.No passengers have been injured due to the accident .
The officials of the wild life department and parayanakulam police are conducting an investigation on the accident.
Note-As an elephant lover would like to express the hope that they would be born as humans in their next birth would not meet a tragic accident like this.
