Tobacco Chewing Among Males In Sri Lanka Is On The Increase
Around 26% of the Sri Lankan males and 5% of the females are addicted to chewing Tobacco according to the National Consultant on non communicable diseases in World Health Organization(WHO) professor Nalika Gunawardena.
As the tobacco proved as a cancer agent ,steps should be taken to reduce the number of tobacco addicts in the country professor Gunawardena has stated during a National Media Workshop On Non Communicable Diseases held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo yesterday (31).

A Sudden Fire Erupted In Thirukkovil Regional Education Office Had Been Doused
A sudden fire erupted in the Accounts Section of the regional Education Office at Thirukkovil Area (In Northern Province) yesterday (31)was doused by the Thirukkovil Police with the assistance of the workers attached to Education Office and residents in the area it has been reported.
No casualties have been reported due to the fire and the value of the damage occurred not yet been estimated.
The Thirukkovil Police believes an electric leak might be caused the fire.

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe To Leave Singapore To Attend Indian Ocean Conference
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe is due to leave for Singapore shortly to participate the Indian Ocean Conference-2016.
The Sri Lankan Prime Minister has been selected to deliver the key note address at the two day conference scheduled to be held from 01st of September to 02nd of September.
Minister S.B Nawinna and Prime Minister's secretary Saman Ekanayake will be accompanied the Prime Minister for the tour .
The Indian Ocean Conference- is organized by Pro Bharatheeya Janatha Party(BJP) India Foundation in Singapore.

Two Persons Who Attempted To Smuggle 5.5 Kilo Grammes Of Gold To India Were Detained By Navy
Sri Lanka Navy Personal Had attested two persons yesterday(30 ) who attempted to smuggle Gold Biscuits weighing 5.5 kilo grammes to India through a fishing boat at North Of Kankasanthurai(In Northern Province)
The suspects were arrested while they attempting to transport the stock of Gold by showing that they are fishermen the Navy have stated.
The arrested persons along with the stock of Gold Biscuits were handed over to the Jaffna Customs Officers for further Investigations according to Navy Sources.

Police Fired Tear Gas To Disperse A Group Of Cricket Fans Protested Out Side The Dambulla International Cricket Stadium
Police fired tear gas this noon to disperse a group of protestors protested out side the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium by blocking the main road demanding they should be allowed to enter the Cricket Stadium to view the fourth one day international Cricket Match between Sri Lanka and Australia although the organizers had announced the Tickets for the match had sold out.
Accordingly some in the group of protesting cricket fans were hooting and damaging the boards at the stadium by demanding that they should be allowed to enter the grounds to view the day night match.
However Australia managed to wrap up the one day international match series currently on against Sri Lanka today by winning the match with one game remaining to play.
The third one day international cricket match between Sri Lanka and Australia which played at the Dambulla Cricket Stadium on Sunday attended by 45,000 spectators although the ground has a capacity to hold only 18,000 spectators it has been reported.

UN Secretary General Has Arrived In Sri Lanka For An Official Visit
United Nations secretary general Ban Ki Moon has arrived in Sri Lanka for an official visit around two hours ago.
The UN Secretary General who accompanied by his wife had arrived in Sri Lanka from Myanmar and met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe and held talks on his arrival today .
He is due to meet President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow (01) and will be leaving for Galle on the same day to participate an event under the theme ,",Reconciliation And Coexistence Of Youth".
On Friday (02) the UN Secretary General is due to visit Jaffna and later in the day he is expected to leave for China to participate the G-20 Summit according to sources.
