Sri Lankan Government Doctors Union Threaten To Strike Over Delaying Of New Internship Appointments

Sri Lankan Government Doctors Union is threatening to launch a strike action if the Health Ministry fails to appoint the Batch of Newly passed out Medical Graduates as Interns to the Government Hospitals before 07th of July.According to the Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) around 750 Medical Graduates are awaiting for Internship Appointments for more then a year and the Government Hospitals needed these Doctors as the Current Batch of Interns due to end their training on 06th of July.

So if the Health Authorities are not appointing these Medical Graduates as Interns then the Patient Care facilities in Government Hospitals will be disrupted after 07 th GMOA Spokesman said.Around 738 Interns currently serving at the Government Hospitals are due to finish their Training on the 06th of July.Higher officials of the Health Ministry are not available to comment on the issue,however the Health Ministry sources said that the Health Minister's failiure to give a date for the Internship Appointment Ceremony causes the dealy of appointing new interns.

The Prices Of Two Brands Of Gas Cylinders Are Revised

The Prices of the Two Brands of Gas Cylinders use in Sri Lanka are revised with the effect from Midnight today as the 12.5 KG Laugfs Gas Cylinder will increased by Rs.100 and Shell Gas Cylinder will reduced by Rs.53 according to the Consumer Affairs Authority .

Under the new Price Revision the price of the 12.5 KG of Laugfs Gas Cylinder will be Rs 1407 and the Shell Gas Cylinder Rs.1447.

Fifteenth Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patient Reported

Fifteenth Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patient was reported today Health Sources said.The Patient who returned from United States Of America is admitted to The Angoda Fever Hospital in the Colombo Suburbs this morning and found as a Positive through a Blood Test.

Around Seven Swine Flu Patients are currently receiving treatment at the Hospital and another Suspected Patient was admitted to the Hospital today.

Two NDF Parliamantarians To Be Appointed As Ministers

Two Parliamentarians of the National Democratic Front(NDF) which supported the Government are due to Given Ministerial Portfolios soon Government Sources said.The two Parliamentarians Nandana Gunathilaka and Piyasiri Wijenayaka are two MP'S to be appointed as Ministers.
MP Wijenayaka was remanded recently for killing a supporter of their Former Party JVP.

Neuro CT Scan Machine Of The Colombo National Hospital Is Not Functioning

CT Scan Machine of the Colombo National Hospital's Neuro Surgical Unit is out of order since last Week and Neuro Patients are facing numerous hardships due to this situation Hospital Sources said today.The CT Scan Tests of the Neuro Patients who are admitted to the National Hospital are performing through the Private Hospitals.

This CT Scan Machine was out of order few months ago too and it repaired only two months ago.

Sri Lankan Swine Flu Taly Increased To Fourteen

The tally of Swine Influenza(H1N1 Virus) Patients of Sri Lanka increased to 14 as another Sri Lankan returned from Australia today became a positive for the Disease.The new patient who returned to the island yesterday is too admitted to the Angoda Fever Hospital in the Colombo Suburbs for treatment.

Now altogether 9 Swine Flu Patients are getting treatment for the Disease at the Hospital.Out of the 14 Swine Flu Patients reported from the Country 9 of them returned from Australia and there are Two from USA,Two Filipinoes and one from United Kingdom.There are another suspected Swine Flu Patients at the Hospital waiting for their test results.

Meanwhile the Secretary of Health Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage said that as all Swine Flu Patients reported from here are returned from Abroad still there is no threat of spreading the Disease internaly as all the patients reported quarantine from others during the treatment.

Sri Lankan Health Ministry To Import Bacteria To Destroy The Dengue Mosquitoes

Sri Lankan Ministry Of Health decided to Import BTI Bacteria(Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis)from Cuba to destroy Dengue Mosquito larvae as the spreading of Dengue in the country is increasing day by day.

According to the Press Release issued by the Ministry Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva already hol d discussions regarding this with the Cuban Ambassedor in Colombo and waiting for the approval of the Cuban Government of importing the Bacteria.

However The Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council already began to use BTI Bacteria to the Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places within the Colombo City Limits.According to the Dr.Pradeep Kariyawasam the Chief Medical Officer Of Health in Colombo their Department is using this Bacteria imported from America once a weak for the breeding places and PHI's are inspecting the Progress weakly.This Method is succesfully adapted by Cuba to curb the Dengue Menace he stressed.

US State Department Issued Travel Warnning To Sri Lanka

The State Department of the United States Of America last Friday issued a warning to All American Citizens traveling to or living in Sri Lanka about Possible Terrorists Attacks or Instability in the Country despite ending the three decade old conflict recently.

This warning is issued as a new travel warning.However after finishing the conflict Sri Lankan life became peaceful and as a result the Local Stock Market improves and became the Fourth Best Growing Stock Market of the world.

Two Crew Members Of The Captian Ali Ship Wants to Go Home

Two Crew members of the controversial Ship "Captain Ali" Vessel which is anchored out side the Chennai Port in India requested Indian Authorities to give them permission to disembark the Vessel so they can take a flight back to their home countries.

The Vessel which carried a shipment of relief material donated by the Tamil Diaspora in United Kingdom for the IDP'S in the Northern Sri Lanka was turned away by the Sri Lankan Navy few weaks ago after it entered to Lankan Waters illegally.Then the Ship was moved to Chennai Port and last wednesday Sri Lankan Government agreed to take the Shipment after the Indian Government requested them to do so.Uthayanan Thavarajasingam and Kristjan Gudmundssonare are the two crew members who requested Indian Authorities to allow them to fly back to London and Icland respectively.

Swine Flu And Dengue Patients In Sri Lanka are On Increse

Three new Swine Flu Patients and 357 New Dengue Patients were added yesterday to the total number of these Flu Patients in Sri Lanka.Seven Dengue deaths too were reported yesterday alone bringing the total number of Dengue deaths this year to 153.

Two Sri Lankans a Mother and Daughter returned from USA and A Lankan teenager returned from Australia were the latest Swine Flu Victims as the total number of Swine Flu Patients are increased to 13.Another three Suspected Patients along with Nine Swine Flu Patients are now receiving treatment at the Angoda Fever Hospital in Colombo.

According to the Epidemiology Unit around 12,744 Dengue Patients were reported from sri lanka this year up to now and it has became a Pandemic in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan Government To Accept the Goods Of Capttian Ali Ship

Sri Lankan Government agreed to take the relief malarial Shipment carried out by Controversial Ship Captain Ali which was turned away by the Sri Lankan Navy few weeks ago after it entered to lankan waters illegally.

Sri Lankan Government agreed on this after Indian Government made a request to doing so.This was agreed during the talks with Sri Lankan Delegation who are in New Delhi including the Senior Adviser to the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha Mr.Basil Raja[paksha and Defense Secretary along with Indian Counterparts.

Sri Lankan Forces Recovered 100KG Gold,Cash And Ammunition Hidden By LTTE

Sri Lankan Army Troops recovered 100 Kilo Grammes of Gold and Cash worth 6.5 Million Rupees hidden by the LTTE Rebels in a Search Operation conducted at Puthukudiyirippu area in Northern Sri Lanka yesterday.

Troops conducting search operations in Nine areas of the Vanni District in the North and recovered Ammunition including Three Thousand Seven Hundred And Eighty rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun.

Troops recovered another set of Ammunition during the search operation at the Eastern District of Trincomalee

One Hundred Fifty Thousand HIB Vaccines Were Expired At The Epidemeology Unit

Around One Hundred Fifty Thousand (150,000) HIB or Pantavalant Vaccines which is introduced to the Sri Lankan National Immunization Programme on January 2008 and later temporarily suspended due to child mortality were expired and stored in the Epidemiology Unit Stores Health Sources revealed.These Vaccines are worth around 15 Million Rupees according to the sources.

HIB Vaccine which can protect the infants from five diseases are prescribed for them at the ages of Two,Four and Six Months.This Vaccine was Temporarily removed from the National Immunization Campaign on April Last year as four infants were died after administered the Vaccine.However A World Health Organization Expert investigating on these Child Deaths and issued a report stating that the Vaccine has nothing to do with these deaths according to the Ministry of Health.

This HIB Vaccine stock was donated to Sri Lanka by the Gavy Foundation.

Even WHO Expert given a clearance to the Pantavalant Vaccine the inquiry report was not publicized and not re issued the Vaccine either.HIB Vaccine is administered to infants to protect against Diptheria,Whooping Cough,Tetanus,Hepatitis-B and Measles.

Sri lankan Swine Flu Patients Tally Increased To Eight

Another Three Swine Flu Patients including Two Female Philippine Nationals were identified from Sri Lanka yesterday on their Arrival at the Katunayaka International Air Port of Colombo as the total number of Swine Flu Patients reported here arisen to eight.
Other one identified as Swine Flu Patient was an eighteen year old Sri Lankan youth returned from London.

Two Philippine Patients were aged 28 and 40 are came to Sri Lanka from Manila on a Sri Lankan Air Lines Flight and due to fly for another destination on a Transit Flight when they were detected as showing Swine Flu symptoms at the Air Port.These three patients were sent to the Angoda Fever Hospital in Colombo Suburbs soon after detected their health status according to the Air Port Health Office.

Now there are Four Swine Flu Patients and two suspected Patients getting treatment at the fever hospital.

Sri Lankan Dengue Control Programme A Total Failiure Says Government Docs Union

The Dengue Control Programme launched by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health to combat the spreading of the disease in the Island proved to be a total failure and there is a need to launch a National Strategy Campaign based on new scientific methods to combat the Dengue Menace successfully Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) of Sri Lanka urged in a letter sent to the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha.

Dengue Fever which caused by the Dengue Mosquito is spreading rapidly throughout the country as over 11,000 patients have been reported in this year up to now and the disease already claimed 146 lives.

In this letter to the president GMOA stressed the need to appoint a Presidential Committee to implement this National Strategy on combating Dengue and urged the President to intervene into this.The Dengue Control Campaign should be implemented under the supervision of Professionals and Scientists who are capable of addressing the issue and they should be given a free hand to take decisions GMOA further said.

Dengue Campaign should run without Political Influence GMOA stressed.

First Four Swine Flu Patients Fully Recovered From The Disease

The first four Swine Flu Patients reported from Sri Lanka who are belongs to the one family completely recovered from their illness and discharged from the Angoda Fever Hospital according to the Director of the Hospital Dr.Anura Senanayake.He said three of these patients were discharged today and the First Swine Flu Patient was discharged on last Saturday.

Now only the latest Swine Flu victim a ten year old Girl who returned from Australia as the first Four Patients along with Three suspected Swine Flu Cases are trceiving special treatment from the Hosital Dr.Senanayake stressed.

Meanwhile the checking of the Air Passengers returning from Swine Flu hit countries continues further according to the Air Port Health Authorities.

Two Sri Lankan UN Staff Members Detained By The Security -Colombo UN Office

United Nations Office in Sri Lankan Capital Colombo says two of it's local Staff Members were detained by the Sri Lankan Security Authorities.UN Office further said that these two staff Members were seems to be missing two day s ago but later found Out that they were detained by the Security.

UN Office contacted the Sri Lankan Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Justice Ministry over the arrest of these Two Employees says that they are concerned over the safety of their Staff Members.But according to UN Office it still not been told the basis of their arrest.

Meanwhile France today criticized the arrest of two Sri Lankan UN Staff Members.

Fifth Swine Flu Patient Of Sri Lanka Reported

The Fifth Swine Flu Patient of Sri Lanka reported today and that patient too was a Sri Lankan who was returned from Australia as other four patients.Fifth Swine Flu patient is a Ten year old girl returned to Sri Lanka from Melbourne-Australia via Singapore Health Authorities said.She is also became the first female Swine Flu Patient of Sri Lanka as other four patients are young boys.

Fifth patient who was returned yesterday to Sri Lanka is currently receiving the treatment from the Fever Hospital in Angoda of the Colombo Suburbs.

Health Authorities of the Katunayaka International Air Port in Colombo says that the 264 Passengers who were in aboard the Singapore Air Line Flight which carried the Swine Flu Patient will quarantined for a week inside their homes and the Provincial Health authorities were instructed on this.

Meanwhile the first Swine Flu Patient reported from here was discharged from hospital on last saturday as he was fully recovered after a week of special treatment.Other three patients who are his cousin brothers are still in the Hospital.

Ministerial Inquiry On Missing Files Of Docs To Be Concluded Next Week

The Report of the Investigation carried out by the Ministry is due to handover to the Health Secretary after the completion of the Inquiry .

The above files which majority are belongs to the Doctors who did not returned to Sri Lanka after completing their Specialists Training in Abroad went missing from the Medical Services Branch of the Health Ministry since 10th of June.

Another Eight Suspected Swine Flu Cases Identified From Sri Lanka

Besides the Four Swine Flu Patients reported from Sri Lanka another Eight suspected Swine Flu Patients were admitted to the IDH Hospital during today Hospital Director Dr.Anura Senanayaka said.

These Eight Suspected Swine Flu Patients are relatives of the Four Swine Flu Patients so far reported and their Blood Samples were sent to the Medical Research Institute in Colombo for further tests he stressed.

Meanwhile Addressing a Press Briefing at the Ministry Of Health in Colombo to day Deputy Director Of the Epidemeology Unit Dr.Sudath Pieris said That quarantined 187 Passengers who were aboard in the Flight that carried Four Swine Flu Patients to Colombo will able go out side their homes after this Sunday."They arrived to the Katunayaka Air Port on last Sunday and if they do not developed the Swine Flu Symptoms within a Week then they will not getting the Disease afterwards" he stressed.Their Seven Day Quarantine Period due to end this Sunday.

Addressing the Briefing Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said that Sri Lankan Authorities are taken every possible meassure to stop the spreading of Swine Flu in Sri Lanka."Already Twenty Government Hospitals including of IDH Fever Hospital prepared as an alert for treating the Swine Flu Patients if there is an Epidemic Situation " he added.

Chief Justice Stated That Sri Lankan MP's Have Right To Visit IDP Camps

The newly elected Chief Justice Asoka De Silva today said that the Sri Lankan Parliamentarians have right to access to the IDP Welfare Camps in the Northern Sri Lanka.

Chief Justice made this declaration after taken into consideration the Fundamental Rights Petition filed by Five opposition Parliamentarians was granted leave to proceed.This petition is scheduled to re consider on 22nd of July.Petitioners of this Petition MP's Jayalath Jayawardene,Laxman seneviratne,Mangala Samaraweera,Hassan Ali and Mano Ganeshan claimed that their rights are breached by the Government's decision to denying access to the Welfare Camps of IDP's.

Cabinet Decided To Offer Cricket Television Coverage Rights For State Media

Sri Lankan Cabinet today decided to offer the Exclusive Television Coverage of the International Cricket Matches played in Sri Lanka only to the State Owned Electric Media giving priority to the National State Owned Rupavahini Co operation.The State Owned Independent Television Network (ITN) remained as second option according to the Government Sources.

Total Number Of Swine Flu Patients In Sri Lanka Increased To Four

The total number of Sri lankan Swine Flu Patients are increased to Four this evening after another Two were confirmed as suffering from the Flu after getting tested.These new patients aged Two and half years and Seven Years are the relatives of the first Two patients that are reported earlier and they were all came to Sri Lanka from Australia on last Sunday.

Their Conditions are not serious according to the Director of the Fever Hospital Dr.Aruna Senanayake.

All four Swine Flu Patients are now admitted to the IDH Fever Hospital for treatment and blood samples of another Three relatives of these patients are testing for Swine Flu at the Medical Research Institute in Colombo.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan Ministry of health decided to make guidelines on Swine Flu on Treating the Patients and how to handle the people who are in closely touch with the Swine Flu Patients with help of World Health Organization.

Second Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patient Too Detected

The Second Swine Flu Patient was reported from Sri Lanka yesterday and he is identified as the Cousin Brother of the First Swine Flu Patient reported here two days ago.They along with their Parents arrived Colombo from Australia via Singapore on last Sunday to attend a Wedding Party in Colombo.
Both the Patients aged Eight and Six respectively are in quarntine and receiving treatment at the IDH Fever Hospital in Colombo Suburbs.

Meanwhile the Parents of the First Patient found as negative to Swine Flu when their Blood Samples were tested according to the Ministry of Health.Ministry also ordered the Health Officers around the Country to be watchful whether the Other passengers who were aboard the Same Singapore Air Lines Flight along with the two patients,whether they are developing any Swine Flu Symptoms.Health Officials are also observing the remaining group of relatives who arrived Sri Lanka from Australia along with the two patients on their flu status.
Around Nine Sri Lankan Family members were in this Group according to the Health Ministry.
Earler it has been revealed that 94 Passengers out of the 187 Passengers in the Flight left the Katunayaka International Air Port in Colombo without handingover the Declaration Form on their Health Status to the Authorities.Now Health Ministry has ordered the health staff at the Air Port to not allowing any passenger to leave the Air Port without handing over the filled Declaration Form to the Authorities.
If there are any Passenger that refused to Handing over the Form they should refer to the Air Port Health Office for a Medical Test Ministry urged.

Sri Lankan Cricket Team qualified for the Semi Finals of the International Twenty-Twenty Cricket Tournament played in United Kingdom this evening.Having won the toss and elected to bat first Sri Lanka scored 158 runs from the loss of 5 Wickets in their alotted Twenty Overs with an opener T.Dilshan top scored with 48 runs
.

While chasing 159 runs for the victory New Zeelanders were all out for 110 runs.

First Swine Flu Case Detected In Sri Lanka

The first Swine Flu(H1N1) case of Sri Lanka was reported today as an Eight Year old Sri Lankan boy based in Australia detected as suffering from the Flu on his arrival at the Katunayaka International Air Port in Colombo this evening.The Boy who was accompanied by his Parents arrived Sri Lanka for a vacation on a Singapore via Flight Health Ministry said.

Swine Flu affected Boy was transferred Immediately to the Fever Hospital in Angoda-Colombo for further treatment and his parents too were undergoing tests to find out whether they too are suffering from the Swine Flu.

At a special Press Briefing held today at the Health Ministry Auditorium Ministry officials appealed to the People aware on the Swine Flu as it spreads quickly among the Community.

Health Ministry Probe On Missing Personal Files Of Docs

The Special Investigations Unit of the Ministry Of Health Is probing on the Missing of 18 Personal Files belongs to the Sri Lankan Doctors stored in the Ministry.These Files which majority of them belongs to the Doctors who are not returned to the Country after finishing their Specialists Training in Abroad were Vanished from the Ministry Unit since last Wednesday.

As these Files are Public Property Ministry already lodged a Complaint to the Maradana Police on these Missing Files containing Personal Data of the Doctors.

The Ministry's Investigation Unit already taken Statements from the Subject Officers who are in Charge of these Files regarding this incident.

Over Two Thousend Dengue Patients And Thirty Four Related Deaths Reported June Alone

Around 2o65 Dengue Patients were reported throughout the Island since the 01st of June up to today and 34 Dengue Patients are died according to the Epidemiology Department.Total number of Dengue Patients and Deaths reported from this month is higher than the Total reported throughout last year it has been revealed.
From this year around 9112 Dengue Patients and 128 Dengue Deaths were reported from the Island and large number of patients are reported from the Districts of Kandy(24),Colombo(13) and Gampaha(21).

Meanwhile Ministry Of Health says today that around 90 Percent of the Flu Patients reported from Sri Lanka these days are Dengue Patients and this was proved by the tests done in the Lab of the Singapore National University.Twenty Blood Samples of the Sri Lankan Flu Patients were tested by the Professor Grubbler of the Singapore Lab and out of it Ninteen Samples were proved as infected with Dengue Virus according to the Ministry.Even the Tests carried out by the Medical Research Institute in Colombo too proved this condition.

Further tests are carriedout at the Lab to findout the Cause of the Increasing number of Dengue Deaths this year compared to previous years as most of these Deaths were caused the Shock Syndrome.Researchers are looking at whether a Change of Genetic Pattern or the Virus causing this Situation.Authorities appealed from the Public to destroy Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places and keep the Environment Clean to prevent spreading of the Disease further.

University Of Kelaniya Closed Down Indefinitely Following Clashes Between Students And Residents

University Of Kelaniya one of the leading universities of Sri Lanka closed down indefinitely this noon following a Clashes between University Students and the Residents of the Area became violent.Nine Residents of the Area were hospitalized following a group of students reside in the University Hostel attacked them last night with Iron Bars over a dispute.

After this attack Residents of the Area armed with clubs and poles surrounded the University Hostel this morning to attack the Group of Students as a Revenge and afterwardsUniversity Authorities called Police to restore normalcy.After arrived to the University Premises Police fired Tear Gas to disperse the Attackers.Although the Kelaniya University was closed Down Medical Faculty attached to the University will functioned as usual.

Media And Civil Activists Protested Against The Attacking Of Journalists

Sri Lankan Media Personal and Civil Society activists to day hold a Protest at the Town Hall in Colombo against the attacking of Journalists and Media Suppression.Wearing Black Scarfs the Protesters criticized the recent attack on the Secretary of the Sri Lankan Working Journalists Association Poddala Jayantha and urged the authorities to stop Interim Forces that are attacking the Journalists.

Sri Lankan Authorities Detained And Expelled Canadian Liberal MP On His Arrival

Canadian Liberal Party Parliamentarian Bob Rae who is known as supported the LTTE was detained by the Sri Lankan Immigration and Emigration Authorities at the Katunayaka International Air Port in Colombo soon after his arrival to Sri Lanka from New Delhi.

Immigration and Emigration Controller Mr.P.B Abeykoon says that the Canadian Liberal Party MP was briefly detained after his arrival to the country over allegations that he links with the LTTE and Immediately sent him to the destination he came, from the very Next Flight.According to the Controller MP is barred from entering to Sri Lanka as he is allegedly linked with LTTE.

Meanwhile Authorities are suspicious on the MP's Visit here as he arrived from a one way ticket.He is representing the Torronto City where most of the Sri Lankan Tamils are living in Canada.

Ottawa Government expressed their Dismay and Displeasure over the Sri Lankan Government's decision to detained MP Rae and booted him out from the Country.

Accidental Explosion At The Ammunition Dump In Wanni

There is an Explosion taken place at the Ammunition Dump in Wanni Army Command of the Vavuniya District this evening.According to the Military this Explosion is an Accidental one.

Residents of Vavuniya too were shaken after hearing the Loud Explosion.Fire was Broke out after the Explosion and Vavuniya Police rushed to the Scene.

Kandy District Becomes The City Of Dengue Deaths

Kandy District Becomes the District Most number of Dengue deaths had reported and it exceeds the Total Number of Dengue Deaths reported from Colombo District.

During this year up to now 24 Dengue Deaths out of the Total Number of 124 Deaths reported throughout the Island were reported from Kandy and only 13 Deaths were reported from Colombo District which is the District most affected from Dengue according to the Epidemiology Unit.

During this year up to now 8647 Dengue Patients are reported from the Island and there are 124 Dengue Deaths.

Batticaloe Mayor and Central Committee Member of the LTTE Break away Faction TMVP (Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pukkal)Party Mrs.Sivageetha Prabhakaren and few other Party members today decided to join the Ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) .This decision was taken during the Central Committee Meeting held today.

Colombo Public Health Dept.To Take A Legal Action Against Dengue Mosquito Breeders

Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council issued notices to 346 Houses in the City last Saturday who are responsible for maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places in their Household.Legal action will taken against these residents if they are not going to destroy Mosquito Breeding Places within One Week according to the Chief Medical Officer of Colombo Pradeep Kariyawasam.

Public Health Department inspected 18,645 Houses in the City last Saturday to find out Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places according to Dr.Kariyawasam.

Sri Lankan Authorities Ordered Controversial Ship Captian Ali To Leave From Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Authorities today ordered the Controversial Ship Captian Ali which entered to Sri Lankan waters ilegally last week to leave the Island without unloading it's cargo.The Syrian Registered Ship carrying 884 Metric Tonnes of Food and Medicine was seized by the Navy after it Entered into Sri Lankan Waters Illegally.Defense Ministry says the Ship carrying these Essential Goods for the defeeted Tamil Rebels in the North.


However the Ship titled their mission as the "Mercy Mission To Vanni".The Foriegn owned ship began their Journey from Port Ipswich of U.K on 20th of April and carried the Essential Items donated by the Tamil Community in U.K.The goods are loaded to the Ship on 07th May at the French Port Fos-Sur-Mer weeks before Sri Lankan Forces defeeted LTTE Rebels.It has been reported that without getting permission the Ship with 15 crew members including former Sri Lankan Monitoring Mission Member planned to travel to the Coast line that was under Rebel Control at that time.

Justice Asoka De Silva Sworn In as the 32nd Chief Justice of Sri Lanka this morning before the President Mahinda Rajapaksha.He replaced the outgoing Chief Justice Sarath N De Silva.The Sworn In Ceremony held at the Preident's Office in Colombo.

New Chief Justice is having 37 years Experience in Legel Field.

President Gave Amnesty To 585 Military Deserters

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha today granted pardon to 585 Jailed Military Deserters to mark the Poson Festival an Important Day of the Buddhist Ca lander falls today.

President who is also the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces gave Amnesty to the Military Deserters who are sentenced a Maximum of One Year Jail Term after been convicted by the Military Court.Many of them are had few months to be released and they are selected for Amnesty as they shown a good behaviour while in jail Government said.

Many of the released Military Deserters are from Colombo Main Prison.

Dengue Alert Level In Sri Lanka Raised As Deaths Incresed To 108

Eighteen Dengue Deaths were reported throughout the Island within last Thursday alone making the Health Authorities to raised the Alert Level on the Disease and implementing new regulations on destroying Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places.With the New number of Deaths the Total Number of Dengue Deaths reported throughout this year are increased to 108.Around 7890 Dengue Patients were reported up to last Friday.

Most number of Cases and Deaths were reported from the Colombo District according to the Epidemiology Unit.Health Authorities with the help from 5000 Members of the Civil Defense Force and the Police are conducting special Inspections on Dengue Breeding Places throughout the Colombo District on this weekend.

Yal Devi Train Resumed It's Journey To North

Sri Lankan Train 'Yal Devi"to day began their first journey to Tandikulam in the North after 20 years.The Train Services towards the Northern province were suspended due to the LTTE Threats and the war prevailed there at that time.Due to this from last Twenty Years Train Services were only running towards Vanni District.

Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma and few other Ministers were among the Passengers who are in the board of Yal Devi on it's Maiden Journey to Thandikulam.The Train reached the destination in Five and Half Hours.

Six Foreigners Including Three Australians Captured From The Sri Lankan IDP Camps

Sri Lankan Authorities yesterday Captured Six Foreigners including three Australians who were among In Displaced Persons (IDP'S)inside the Welfare Camps of Northern Sri Lanka. Government announced that the Three Australians captured are facing more than one year detention and there will be no special treatment or early release on them.Other foreign Nationals captured including a British,a Danish and a Norwegian.

Sri Lankan Authorities are Screening these Foreigners to find out Whether they are linked with LTTE.Meanwhile the Australian Embassy in Colombo says that they will try to gain counselor Access to the Three Australians believed to be Dual Australian/Sri Lankan Nationals.

Investigations On The Arrested Vessel Entered Ilegally In To Sri Lankan Waters Continues

The Investigations on the Vessel Captain Ali arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy yesterday are still underway and according to the Navy Sources except Food and Medicine no Weapons are there in the Vessel.
There are Food,Medicine,Water Bottles and Clutches for the Disabled are found inside the Vessel Sources added.Pro LTTE Associates in U.K were collected donations and dispatched them in to Sri Lanka from this Ship.

The Vessel is currently anchored near the Colombo Harbour under Navy Protection.Sri Lankan Government is due to take an action against the Vessel after Navy Search is finished.The 15 Member Crew of the Vessel including Iceland Naional who is a Member of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission and Two Sri Lankan Tamils holding British Passports Two Egyptians and 11 Syrians are still inside the Vessel.
