Around 20,000 Sri Lankans Have Died Annually Due To The Illnesses Caused By Tobacco Smoking -Ministry Of Health

Around 20,000 Sri Lankans have died annually due to to the illnesses caused by  Tobacco Smoking according to the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine.

As a measure of  preventing these  Deaths caused by Tobacco Smoking the Health Ministry has decided to take stern action against those who are  importing Illegal Cigarette Packs to the country.

These illegal cigarette Packs which not even carrying pictorial warning messages on tobacco related diseases are being largely circulated among locals due to the lapses of  legal system in the country the Ministry has said.

Colombo High Court Has Issued A Notice To Sri Lankan Motor Car Racing Driver Dilantha Malagamuwa

debt සඳහා පින්තුර ප්‍රතිඵලThe Colombo High Court has today(18) issued a notice to Sri Lankan International Motor Car Racing Driver Dilanatha Malagamuwa to appear before the court on 23rd of March over a case filed against him by a Japanese National regarding the failure of  Malagamuwa to settle his US Dollars 600,000 debt.

The notice was issued by the Colombo High Court today when the case against Malagamuwa has been taken up for hearing at the court.

Most of the essential Antibiotic Drugs in the local market have been increased between 200 -300% during last Six Months according to the Government Hospital Doctors.

Not Registering new imported drugs to Sri Lanka by the newly Formed Independent Drug Regulatory Authority and the rising value of the US Dollar against Sri Lankan Rupee   are the main causes behind this huge increase of the prices of Drugs Doctors have said.

Due to this situation patients with economic difficulties have been experiencing  enormous difficulties when purchasing these drugs from the  Private Sector health sources said.

Sri Lanka Cricket Has Suspended The Services Of Fast Bowling Coach And A Bowler Of The Sri Lankan National Cricket Team Over An Alleged Match Fixing Scandal

Sri Lanka Cricket has today(18) suspended the services of Fast Bowling Coach of Sri Lankan National Cricket Team Anusha Samaranayake and Bowler Gayan Viswajith over an alleged match fixing scandal occurred during the First Test Against West Indies Played in Galle on last October. 

The bowler Viswajith who is the main suspect of the Match Fixing Scandal has been also banned from entering the Sri Lanka Cricket Premises.

The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division(FCID) has  already began an Investigations regarding the alleged Match Fixing Scandal per the complaint lodged by   Sports Minister Daysiri Jayasekera.

The Sri Lankan National Cricketer Thisara Perera had earlier informed the officials that some bookies have approached him and the off spinner Rangana Herath to under perform during the first Test Match played against West indies in Galle last October.

The FCID had already questioned Sri Lankan Opener Kusal Perera and Off Spinner Rangana Herath over the alleged Match Fixing Scandal and due to question Sri Lankan Captain Angelo Mathews and Team Manager Jerry Wouterz according to Sri Lanka Cricket.

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe Due To Leave For Switzerland Tomorrow(19)

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe is due to leave for Switzerland tomorrow (19) to attend the World Economic Forum scheduled to be held in Davos-Klosters ,Switzerland from 20-23 rd of January.

During the visit Prime Minister Wikramasinghe is due to meet International Investors to get possible investments for Sri Lanka.

This is the first time that a Sri Lankan Head Of State has been invited to attend the World Economic Forum  according to reports.

Preliminary Inquiries Regarding Large Scale Fraud And Corruption Occurred AT Sathosa While Importing Rice Have Been Completed

The preliminary Inquiries regarding the large scale fraud and corruption occurred at Lanka Sathosa Limited while importing rice during the previous regime have been completed according to Presidential Commission Of Inquiry Probing Large Scale Fraud And Corruption.

The Commission has uncovered through the inquiries that fraud and corruption amounting Millions Of Rupees  had occurred when importing rice stocks during the Previous regime through Sathosa and the importing of  rice has been done without following proper procedures.

During the inquiries 400,000 Kilo Grammes of Rice which unsuitable for consumption have been found while stored at several Ware Houses attached to Sathosa.

So far around Six Top Sathosa Officials have been removed from their posts regarding the fraud and Corruption occurred at Sathosa while importing Rice Stocks according to reports.

Three Indian Fishermen Have Been Arrested While Illegally Fishing In Sri Lankan Waters

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Officers with the assistance of Navy have last Saturday(16) arrested  Three Indian Fishermen along with a fishing trawler they were travelling in while illegally fishing in Sri Lankan  Waters of North West Of Kareinagar .

The Indian Fishermen who arrived from Tamil Nadu District with their Trawler are due to be handed over to the Department Of Fisheries And Aquatic Resources in Jaffna(In Northern Province) to take a  legal action the Navy has said.

Central Environmental Authority To Close Down The Fuel Station Responsible For Diesel Leak Into Nilwala River-Cleaning Of River Water Continues

The Central Environmental Authority has yesterday (17) decided to temporarily close down the Fuel Station which responsible for Diesel Leak that contaminated the Nilwala River(In Southern Province). 

The written closure order is due to be handed over to the Fuel Station Owners soon according to the Authority.

The Water Supplies and Drainage Board has taken steps to suspended Water Supply to Akuressa in Matara(In Southern Province) on Saturday due to the water in Nilwala River found as contaminated with Diesel.However the Water Board has restored the water supply by last evening .

Meanwhile the cleaning process of the Diesel which leaked into the Nilwala River still continues the Central Environmental Authority has said.

A 15 Year Old Student And His Mother Have Been Arrested And Remanded Over A Fatal Crash Which Killed A Mother And Daughter

A 15 year old Student and his mother have been arrested and remanded over a fatal crash which killed a Mother and Daughter  occurred at the Pedestrian Crossing on Baseline Road near Dematagoda (In Colombo)Railway Grounds last night.

The Car drove by the Teenager Student ran over the Mother and Daughter around 8.50 p.m last night while they were crossing the Pedestrian Crossing .The critically Injured Mother and Daughter have been rushed to the Colombo National Hospital where they have  succumbed to their injuries after being  admitted.

The Teenager and the Mother in the Car have been arrested and produced before Colombo Magistrate Court today (17) and the Court has ordered the Police to remand the suspected Teenager and his Mother until 29th and 25th of January Respectively.

President Sirisena Has Said After 43 Years Germany Has Invited A Sri Lankan Head Of State To Visit That Country

President Maithripala Sirisena has said today(17) he has been invited for an official visit to Germany ,The first for a Sri Lankan Head Of State after more than four decades.

This is the first time the German Government has officially invited a Sri Lankan Head Of State to visit their country after 43 years the President has stated.

There is a competition among the International Community to help the development activities in Sri Lanka and the Middle Path and the better governance which Sri Lanka has  adapted in their foreign policy  is the main cause for this Sri Lankan President has stressed.

With the help of friendly countries the Government will make 2016 as a year of Transformation Development of Sri Lanka President Sirisena has made these remarks after ceremonially commencing the Five Year District Development Programme "Pibidemu Polonnaruwa"(In North Central Province) today(17).

Sri Lankan Air Port Custom Officers Have Arrested A Sri Lankan With A Stock Of Expensive Wallapatta At Katunayake Air Port

Sri Lankan Air Port Custom Officers have arrested a 33 year old Sri Lankan few hours ago with a stock of Wallapatta(which is used to make expensive perfumes) weighing 23 Kilos and 400 Grammes in his possession when he attempted to smuggle it to Abudhabi .

The stock of Wallapatta carried by the suspect is worth Rs.9,360,000 according to the Custom Officers.

Government Has Released Fifty Five Out Of The One Hundred Four Detained Indian Fishermen Scheduled To Release

Sri Lankan Government has taken steps to release 55 out of the 104 detained Indian Fishermen which the government has decided to release as a goodwill gesture to mark Hindu Festival "Thaipongal".

The remaining detained Indian Fishermen will be released after been produced them before courts in Trincomalee and Mannar on 18th of January the Government has said.

These Indian Fishermen have been detained by Sri Lankan Navy  while illegally fishing in Sri Lankan Waters .
