Court Ordered To Arrest Medical Officer Of MSD Over Low, Quality Drug Purchase

 Maligakande Magistrate Court has issued  a warrant to arrest Dr.Jayanath Buthpitiya attached to the.Medical supplies division who had gone abroad  over the purchasing of low quality Human immunoglobulin Injection vials to Government hospitals.


Dr .Buthpitiya has been reported as gone  abroad when he was requested to give a statement regarding the low quality Injection  import .Meanwhile Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had also inforned the additional secretary to the Dr.Saman Ratnayake to appear before CID to give a statement on the purchasing of low quality human immunoglobulin injection vials.

Maligakanda Magistrate had further remanded the suspects who are  already imprisioned over the issue including former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella until 14 th of Matxh.

Ministry Of Education Issues A Circular On Reducing School Bag Weight

 The Ministry Of Education has issued a circular to all school principals regarding the reducing of weight of the School bag used by the school children

A Person Was Injured Due To Gun Shooting In Colombo

A person was injured and hospitalized due to a gun shooting occurred at Jampatah Street i in Colombo yesterday(25).The injured was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.


Two unidentified gunmen arrived from Motorcycle opened fire at the victim anf fled away from the area accordng to te Police.Polive have launched  an investigation in search of the gunmen it has been reported

Electricity Supply To One Million Homes Disconnected Last Year(2023)

 Electricity  supply to around one million houses  had been disconnected during last year(2023)due to the  non payment of Electricity bills it has been revealed at the meeting of the Parliamentary select committee on  appease the effects of Economic crisis held recently.

A Female Was,Killed And Three Injured Due To Van-Tiper Collision ollision

 A female was killed and another three persons were injured and hospitalized due to a Van -Tiper truck  collision occurred on Trincomalee-Kandy   main road between Hatharas kotuwa and Kitulutuwa areas yesterday according to the Habarana Police.


A 37 year old female who was travelling in the van  was killed and two other passangers   in the Van along with the driver of the Tiper truck  were injured and admitted to the Kantale Base hospital for treatment.The deceased was a resident of kinniya area it has been revealed.

Heat Index Advisory Issued For Several Areas

 An amber heat index advisory had issued  for several areas yesterday (23) by the Meteorology Department.

A Female Lecturer Was Killed Due To Colliding With A Lorry

A young female Assistant Lecturer attached to the Department of International affairs in Arts faculty of the University of Colombo was,killed  after colliding with a Lorry whilst crossing the road at Wikramasinhapura,Battaramulla (Colombo ) last morning (20) it has been reported.

The deceased


was a resident of Wikramasinhapura area was killed after colliding with a lorry travelling from Palawstte in Battaramulla to Thalawathugoda    whilst crossing the road to go to work according to reports.

A Joint Protest To Be Held Today (21) Against Privatising State Businesses

 Trade Unions representing Many sectors including Telecommunications,Postal ,Electricity ,Banking and Insuarance is due to hold a Joint protest in Colombo against selling of  State Resources .

Ceylon Electricity Board To Submit A Proposal To Reduce Electricity Tarriffs

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is being scheduled to submit a proposal to Public Utilities Commission to  reduce the Electricity tarriffs by nearly 20 percent  tomorrow(22) it has been reported.


The Public Utilities Commission has,informed the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to submit a new proposal regarding reducing Electricity tarriffs following the public consultation held in this regard on 15th of February.

An Agreement Signed To Start Sri Lanka-Israel Direct Flights

Sri Lanka and Israel had signed  an agreement to start direct air services between two countries .


According to the Ministry of  Ports ,Shipping and Aviation  the agreement was signed by  the Minister of Transport and Riad safety in Israel Miri Regev and Minister of Ports and Shipping in Sri Lanka  Nimal Siripala,De Silva.The direct flights between Sri Lsnka and Israel will begin from next March accordance  to a,fixed schedule it has been announced.

Prison Hospital Is Being Overcrowded

 The Prison Hospital in Welikada is currently overcrowding according to the Prison Department.Prison overcrowding  has caused  this situation the Department had stated.


The number of Beds at the Prison Hospital is 185 ,But the number of Prison inmates currently in the hospital is  350 it has been revealed.Many ranked as VIP s 'including some politicians  who are serving prison sentences over     criminal activities   are being currently received treatment in the hospital according to the  reports

Former Health Minister And Six Other Officials Were Remanded Until 29th

 Maligakanda Magistrate Court has ordered Seven Persons including Former Health and Enviornment  Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to be remanded until 29th of  February in connection with purchasing of low quality Human Immunoglobulin Injection vials for State Hospitals .


Accordingly Maligakande Magistrate Lochana Abeywikrama has ordered  to remand the Former Minister ,Health Ministry  Secretary and five other officials over purchasing of low qualIty Injection vials.

A Sixteen Hour Long Water Cut To Be Implemented In Five Colombo Divisions

The National Water Supply And Drainage Board has announced a 16 hour long water cut from 5 P.m this evening (17).until 9 a.m tomorrow(18) in five Colombo divisions according to the Board.

Accordingly The scheduled


cut  will be implemented in Colombo 11,12,13,14 and 15  the Board had stated.The long hour water cut  is scheduled to be implemented due to the essential maintainamce work carried out under the Energy Conservation project to improve the water supply in Ambathale

Police Taken Colombo National Hospital D Director Out Of His Office After Trapping Inside

 The Riot police have managed to taken Deputy Director of Colombo National Hospital Dr.Rukshan Bellana out of his office after being trapped inside his office for nearly six hours due to a Protesting Minor staff of the hospital surrounded his office yesterday(16).


Around 500 Minor staff employees of the Hospital surrounded the office of National Hospital Deputy Director last evening     over  the  comments  made by him against Health sector minor staff  for demanding Dat allowance received by Doctors it has been reported.


Fifteen Persons Were Injured And Hospitalized Due To An Accident

 Fifteen persons including a four month old child were injured and hospitalized after the Van they were travelling in veering off the road and crashed into a tree at Wariyapola -Kalugamuwa road last evening (16) according to the Wariyapola (North western province) Police.A four month old infant and 12 females  were among those injured it has been reported.




The injured were admitted to the Variyapola District Hospital  and four of them were  later transferred  to Kurunagala  Teaching Hospital for further    treatment .The Injured are residents of Imiyangoda,area  it has been reported.

President Declares Health,Transport And Postal Services As An Essential Services

 President Ranil Wikramasinghe has issued an Extra Ordinary  Gazette Notification declaring Health,Public Transport  ,Train  and Postal Services as an Essential services.


President has declared above services as special Services to prevent it being obstacle to the General Public it has been announced.

 Seven persons were arrested  by the Aduruppu Street police in connection of  giving Milk contaminated with poison to two prison inmates whilst hiding in a house at  Gampola Police division.

Two Persons Injured After A Tree Branch Fallen In To Their Van

Two persons were injured and hospitalized  after a branch of a tree had fallen in to a Van they were travelling in at  Galle-Matara main road of  Kapparathota ,Weligama area(Southern Province).


Ten persons were travelling in the van from Rajagiriya to Mirissa at the time of the incident and the Van was completely damaged as  the result  it has been reported.The branch of the tree had fallen in to the Van as a result of Heavy rain and Windy condition prevailed at that time  it has been revealed.The Transport activities of the Galle-Matara  main road had been disrupted  for an hour due to the incident.

A Youth Was Shot Dead At Galkanda Area

 A youth was shot dead by a three gunmen artived in from a Motor Cycle at Galkanda area in Chilaw-Colombo road yesterday(10).


The deceased who was travelling in his Motorcycle  died on the spot according to the Police.The Police are investigating to arrest the the three gunmen who fled away after the incident.


Another 5 Year Old Child Died Due To Tree Collapse

 Another 5 year old child who was critically injured after a tree at their international  school backyard collapsed at Gampola District succumbed to his injuries according to sources.

With this death the total number of deaths  related to the incident has risen to two.Another  five year old child has,died on the spot due to the collapsed tree last Monday(05).The child died yesterday was receiving an intensive care  unit treatment at Kandy national hospital at the time of his,death it has been reported.Another child injured due to the incident is currently receiving treatment at Gampola Base Hospital.

Ethgala Police are conducting an investigations over the incident.

A Driver Of Dimo Mini Lorry Was Killed Due To An Accident

A driver of a Dimo batta Mini Lorry was  killed after the Mini Lorry was veering off  the road and crashed in to a tree and a electricity pole at the Sella kataragama-   Mailagamaga  road yesterday(08).

Online Safety Act Brought Under Public Security Ministry

 The Online safety act approved by tbe Parliament recently has been brought under the Ministry of Public  security by the President's secretary Saman Ekanayake.President's secretary Saman Ekanayake  had yesterday (07) issued an extraordinary Gazette Notification in this regard .



Meanwhile President's secretary has issued another Gazette Notification stating the Mimistry of Enviornment should be functioned under the President.

Health Sector Strike Scheduled For Today (07) Called Off

The Islandwide strike action called today(07) by the Health Services Trade Union Alliance(HSTUA) compromising of 72 trade unions    had  been called off following the  discussions held with finance Minstry officials .


During the discussions held with Finance Ministry officials they had given a favourable response  regarding  offering Rs.35,000 Dat allowance given to medical officers to other health workers as well according to the Ministry.





 

Former Health Minister Rambukwella Resigned From His Ministerial Portfolio

 The Minister of Enviornment Keheliya Rambukwella   who was remanded recently over the purchasing of low quality Human immunoglobulin Injection vials for Hospitals   has resigned from his Ministerial Post yesterday(06).


Minister Rambukwella who was former Health Minister as well sent his resignation letter to the President Ranil Wikramasinghe and the president  had accepted the letter it has been reported.

The Former Minister Rambukwella was arrested by Criminal Investigatons Department (CID) recently over the purchasing of  low quality Human immunoglobulin injection vials for government hospitals under the Indian credit line  and later remanded until 15th of February by the court.He had earlier won the no confidence motion submitted against him to the Parliament by main opposition .Meanwhile the authorities had given former Minister Rambukwella a chance to attend the Parliamentary session  held today(07) however he has declined that offer.

Thirty Four Inmates In Kandakadu Center Arrested Over A Brawll

 Thirty four inmates attached to the Kandakadu Rehabilotation Center who were involved in brawl activities at the Center for a long time   had been taken into custody according to the Rehabiitation Commissioner General Retired Major Darshana Hettiarachchi.


Meanwhile due to a brawl occurred among two groups of inmates at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center yesterday(04) 10 Persons including an Army soldier had been injured and admitted to the Welikanda Base Hospital.Police have  arrested 14 inmates over the incident.

Navy Arrested 23 Indian Fishermen In Northern Seas

 Sri Lanka Navy had arrested 23 Indian Fishermen along with two trawlers they were in poaching off the Delft Island in Northetn Sri Lanka last Saturday(03).Navy had arrested them during their regular petrol conducted in Northern seas .


The arrested Indian fishermen and their trawlers were brought to the Kankasanthurai Harbor and latet they were handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for a legal action.

Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella Has Been Remanded

 The Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella who was,arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)  has been remanded untill 15th of February by the Maligakande Magistrate Court yesterday (15) after being produced  before the court .


Earlier he was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after being questioned nearly 11 hours over the purchasing of sub standerd Human Immunoglobulin Injection vials to hospitals.

However soon after receiving the remand order from the court the former Health Minister has been admitted to the Prison Hospital in Welikada over a complaint made by him.

Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella Was Arrested

The former Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwellahad been arrested by the Criminl.Investigations Department (CID) today(02) after being questioned nearly 22 hours it has been reported.




 The former Health Minister who is the current Enviornment Minister of the Cabinet was arrested over importing of sub standard Human Immunoglobulin Injection vials trough the indian credit line which caused few patienr deaths.Five persons imcluding the former Health Ministry secretery Janaka Sri Chandragupta are currently in jail.over the scandal.
