Constitutional Council Called Applications To Elect Members Of Independent Commissions
Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane has today (31) announced that the application to appoint the members of the Independent Commissions will be called from tomorrow (01 ) and the deadline for applications will be 15th of February .
Accordingly application will be called to appoint the members of the Independent Commissions ,The national elections commission ,human rights commission ,Judicial services commission ,national police commission ,commission to investigate allegations of bribery and corruption ,procurement commission,national audit commission and the public services commission .
The constitutional council had decided last Monday (30) to publish the advertisement on newspapers regarding the calling an applications to elect the members of the independent commissions
Foirmer Presdient Sirisena Appologized From Public Over Easter Sunday Attacks
The Former president and the current chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Maithripala Sirisena had today (31)apologized from the public over the Easter Sunday attacks carried out during his government .
Addressing a Media Briefing held in Colombo today ,The former President Sirisena had stated that he is seeking apology from God behalf of those who had died and still receiving treatment in hospitals as a result of the Easter Sunday attacks carried out by someone else .He apologized from the Catholic community in the country what described as a tragedy occurred during his presidency without his knowledge
IUSF Convener Wasantha Mudalige Had Been Released From The Charges Of Terrorist Activities
The Convener of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige who was arrested and held in detention for 89 days under the state of emergency and Terrorism prevention act over supporting terrorist activities had been released from that offense by the Colombo Chief Magistrate today (31).
Mudalige was arrested and remanded under the Terrorism Prevention Act and he is in remand custody pending Attorney General's advise .Although he had been released on the offense supporting Terrorism activities he is still in prison over few other charges leveled against him .
Meanwhile the members of the Inter University Students Federation had staged a silent protest in front of the Chief Magistrate Court when Mudalige was escorted to the court today .

Public Utilities Comission Chairman To Take Legal Acton Against CEB Officials
The Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission Janaka Ratnayake has yesterday (29) stated that a legal action will be taken today (30) against the officers in Electricity board who had failed to provide an uninterrupted power supply during on going GCE Advanced level examination .
Although the Public Utilities Commission had directed the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) not to implement the scheduled Daily power cuts during the GCE Advanced Level Examination from 24th of January to 17th of February .CEB has failed to implement the order he has stated.
The Public Utilities Commission chairman had also said that he is awaiting to receive the charge sheet Minister of Power is said to be drafted against him over his opposition to the implementaton of ongoing power cuts .An independent authority cannot rely on political authority he has further stated.
Two Died Due To A Fight At Pulmodei Area
Two persons were killed and another three persons had been injured and hospitalized due to a fight erupted between two factions at Pulmodei area (Easrern Province) yesterday (29).
The injured were admitted to the Trincomalee Base Hospital for treatment .The deceased were of the ages 41 and 45 year old it has been revealed.

Electricity Board Wants To Continue Power Cuts

Although the regulator Public Utilities Commission had refused to approve daily Power cuts suggested by the Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) ,The CEB had informed the Commission that the scheduled daily power cuts will be implemented as usual due to the lack of resources available with the Electricity Board to avoid these cuts.
Public Utilities Commission had earlier requested the Ceylon Electricity Board to avoid daily scheduled Cower cuts citing the G.CE Advanced level examination currently underway ,until 17th of February .

Two Employees Had Been Injured Due TO a A Fire At Tea Factory
Two employees attached to a Tea factory at Kurunuduwatte in Wetakedeniya (Cemtral Province) had been injured and hospitalized due to a fire occurred at the factory in wee hours of this morning (27) according to the Police.The Tea factory had been completely destroyed due to the fire it has been reported.
The injured employees had been admitted to the Gampola hospital for treatment .Fire trucks attached to Kandy Municipal Council had doused the fire and the cause behind the fire has not yet been revealed.
Three Of A Same House Died Due To A Fire
A Mother and her two children had died due to a sudden fire occurred at a house in Elayapattiwa ,Mankadawala(North Central Province) last night(26).
Accordingly the Mother and her son and daughter aged 05 and 10 years had died due to the fire and the father of the children had been injured whilst attempting to save them it has been reported.
Public Utilities Commission To Refrain From Approving Power Cuts Until 17th of February
The Public Utilities Commission has decided not to approve requests made by Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) to implement Power cuts until 17th of February citing to safeguard the human rights of the students sitting for the G.C.E Advanced level examination according to the chairman of the Commisson Janaka Ratnayake
The Chairman had informed the General Manager of the Electricity Board on this after the General Manager had requested an approval to implement the daily power cut today (27).
Although the Commission had informed the Ceylon Electeicity Board to refrain from implementing power cuts during the ongoing Advanced level Examinaton ,Power cuts had been implemented since the start of the examination last Tuesday.

Two Trade Unionists Arrested And Remanded Over Threatening Public Utilities Commisson Members
The Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Ganage had remanded the Spokesperson of United Trade Union Alliance Ananda Palitha and the convener of Electriciry Consumers Association Dhammika Sanjeewa who were arrested over protesting against members of Of Public Utilities Commission in Colombo ,until 26 th of January over the charges of Criminal Influence .
Both trade unionists were arrested by the police on last Momday after they had threatened public utilities commission members over Electricity tariff hike .
Several Organizations Filed A Writ Application Against Electricity Tarrif Hike
Several Organizations had filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal seeking an order to invalidate the Cabinet Decision on Electricity tarrif hike with effect from 01st of January 2023.
The Petitioners had named several including the Minister Of Power anf Energy ,The Ceylon Electricity Board and Cabinet of Ministers as respondents of the case .Several organizations including Electricity Consumers Association and Center for Enviornmental Justice haf filed this writ application before court.
Electricity Board To Reduce Daily Power cut Hours
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has decided to reduce the two hours and twenty minutes long daily power cut to two hours due to the ongoing GCE A/Level examination

Kealnithissa Powe Plant Was Shut Down
The Kelanithissa Power plant was shut down since this morning (22) due to the shortage of Naptha chemical used to operate the plant it has been reported ..The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceypetco) not been able to find enough funds to purchase Naptha chemical and the officials of Ceypetco are currently holding discussions with the officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB ) regarding it according to reports .

A Former Police Constable Arrested With Narcotics In Possession
A Police Team attached to the Criminal Investigations Division at Kelaniya Division (Western Province) had arrested a former Police Constable in possession of Ice and Kerala Cannabis Narcotics at a SPA in Pattiya Junction ,Kelaniya (Western Province) .
The suspect was formerly attached to the Dematagoda Police and interdicted in 2018 over the charges leveled against him .He is a resident of Palmadulla ,In Ratnapura District .
A Three Wheeler Driver Was Killed Due To Train-Three Wheeler Collison
A Three wheeler driver had died and another person had been injured and hospitalized due to the Three wheeler -train collision at Polwatte railway crossing in Weligama,Matara(Southern Province).The injured was admitted to Matara General Hospital for treatment .
The incident occurred when the Three wheeler attempted to cross the railway crossing collided with the Train traveled to Maradana from Beliatta it has been revealed .The 38 year old Train driver was killed on the spot according to the reports .

Seven Persons Died -Fourty One Students Injured Due To A Bus-Van-Three Wheeler Collision -Bus Had Fallen To A Precipice
Seven persons died and forty one school children had been injured and hospitalized due to a Bus-Van-Three wheeler collision occurred at a risky Keti road at Radalla area in Nanuoya,Nuwara eliya(Central province ) last night (20).
Due to the incident six out of the nine persons travelled in the Van and the driver of the Three wheeler had died and forty one students travelled in the Bus who are students of Thurstan Collage ,Colombo had been injured as the Bus had fallen to a precipice as a result of the collision .All the students in the bus except three admitted to Nuwara Eliya Base Hospital for treatment and their condition is not serious accordance to the hospital sources.
Due to the incident the Bus and the Three wheeler had been damaged severely it has been reported ,The students attached to Thurstan collage Colombo travelled in the bus were on an educational tour to radella area at the time of the incident .,The reason behind the incident has not yet been revealed according to the Police .

A Nine Hour Water Cut To Be Implemented In Colombo Tomorrow(21)
A 09 hour long Water cut is scheduled to be implemented in five Municipal council areas ,Three Urban council areas and in a Pradesheeya Sabha area in Colombo District tomorrow (21) due to an essential maintenance work at Amabathale Water treatment plant according to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board ,
Accordingly the water supply to Colombo,Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia ,Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte , Kaduwela and Moratuwa Municpal Council areas as well as in Maharagama,Boralesgamuwa and Kolonnnawa Urban council areas and Kotikawatte-Mulleriyawa Pradesheeya Sabha area will be disrupted from 11 a.m to 8 p.m tomorrow the Board has stated .
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is due to carryout a maintenance work at the Ambatale Water treatment plant during the water cut the Board has announced.
At a time Viral fevers like Corona,Influenza and Dengue are spreading rapidly the water cut will put the public in relevant areas in an inconvenience situation .

Police Have Arrested A University Student Over Killing His Girl Friend
Cinnamon Gardens police have arrested a student attached to the science faculty of the Colombo University over killing his girl friend who was attached to the same University by using a sharp weapon at Colombo race course grounds last morning (17).
After killing his girl friend the suspect had fled away from the area and Police have arrested the suspect three hours later with the sharp object he used to kill the victim.The Victim was identified as a 24 year old student attached to the third year of the Science faculty at Colombo University resided at Kiriwaththuduwa area,Homagama (Colombo District).The reason behind the murder has not yet been recealed and Police are conducting an investigations over the incident .

French Authorities Expelled 46 Sri Lankan Migrents Sailed Illegally To French Island
French authorities have expelled 46 Sri Lankan nationals who had attempted to illegally sailed to the Re Union islands in France by a Boat.
The Expelled Sri Lankan migrants had arrived in Sri Lanka last Friday (13) and they were sent to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for a legal action These migrants were arrested by the French police when they have attempted to enter Re Union Islands on 24th of December last year (2022).They have paid Rs.200,000 each for a smuggler in Dehiwala area (Colombo District ) for their journey to re union islands it has been revealed .

Ten Employees Of JanItorial Service In Anuradhapura Hsopital Hospitalized Due To Toxic Fume
Ten employees attached to the janitorial service of the Anuradhapaura Teaching Hospital (North Central Province) had been admitted to the hospital last morning (14) after falling sick due to the inhaling of a toxic fume whilst removing the Garbage of the Hospital .
Whilst removing the Garbage in the hospital those employees had inhaled a gas leaked from there and fallen sick it has been revealed .However their condition is stable according to the sources.
