Polce Fired Tear Gas And Water Cannons To Disperse A Inter University Students Federation Protest In Colombo

Police have fired tear gas and water
cannons to disperse a group of University student protesters attached to Inter Universiry Students Federation who had attempted to march towards Prime Minsters official residence  "Temple Trees"this evening (09)demanding to abolish Batticaloa Campus Private Limited.

The protesters who began the protest march from Jayawardanapura University in Nugegoda this noon had arrived in Colpetty through the Highlevel road amidst heavy showers it has been reported .

Protesters had stopped the March for around one hour at Wijerama Road due to the heavy showers and later arrived in Colpetty junction amidst rain .Then when the student protesters had attempted to  march towards Temple Trees by breaking Police barricades Riot Police Fired tear gas and water cannons towards the protesters. A heated argument was erupted between a group of protesters and riot Police at that time  as well.

However after holding a rally at the Colpetty junctions, protesters had left the junction .During the protest march a heavy traffic had  prevailed in along Highlevel road upto the Colpetty junction according to reports .
