Abdominal Obesity in Sri Lanka is on the increase and around one third of the current population over the age of 18 years are having it according to the Consultant Nutritionist attached to the Medical Research Institute in Colombo Dr.Renuka Jayathissa.
Addressing a Meda Seminar held yesterday(01)at the Health Promotions Bureau in Colombo regarding the National Nutrition Month falls in June ,Dr.Jayathissa has stressed that the bad food habits and lack of exercises are being mainly caused this situation.
"We have a Fried rice culture where most people are buying prepared fried rice from small food stalls for lunch or dinner as well as young people are getting used to eat and drink fast foods/ drinks as a convenient method .
People should restricted the daily calorie intake to 500 Kilo Calories per day to prevent abdominally obessed she has said.To do that should reduce the daily intake of rice,sugar,Cheese,fried chinese rolls and other short eats and engage in physical exercises like brisk walking Dr
Jayathissa revealed.
The Abdominal Obesity is associated with multiple health risks including Ischamic Heart Diseases,Type 2 Diabetes Mallitus?Raised Blood Preasure ,Stroke ,Breast and Collorectal Cancers and Alzheimer's Dosease according to Health experts.
