The Cabinet has yesterday(02) approved a proposal on constructing two new elevated highways connecting Kelaniya to Colombo Port and Kelaniya to Rajagiriya in view of reducing the traffic congestion in City of Colombo according to the Ministry Of Higher Education and Highways.These constructions will be funded by Japanese Government and Asian Development Bank the Ministry has said.

Under the proposal one elevated highway with a distance of 5.8 Kilo Meters will be constructed from Kelaniya Bridge to Colombo Port Entrance and the second elevated highway with a distance of 6.9 Kilo Meters and consisting of 4 lanes will be constructed from Kelaniya Bridge to Rajagiriya while it will connect to Battaramulla,Malabe,Athurugiriya and the outer circular expressway.
