National Child Protection Authority To Submit Seven Proposals To Government On Child Rape Cases.

Dr.Balendra
National Child Protection Authority has decided to submit seven proposals to the government regarding actions to be taken regarding  child rape cases including  extending the prison sentence of child rapists from 10 years to 20 years according to the president of  National Child Protection Authority Dr.Natasha Balendra.

Addressing a press briefing held In Colombo yesterday(16) Dr.Balendra has said that the child protection authority has never entertained the imposing of capital punishment against child rapists as studies  carried out by western countries have  clearly  shown that by  imposing capital punishment the number of child rape cases will not be decreased .

Among st the seven proposals that child protection authority is  planning to submit to the government are establishing a high court each in every province and appointing a high court   commissioner to hear child rape cases and giving a special training for those officers who are working with children.
