President Maithripala Sirisene has said today(29) that he will introduce strict laws from next year to avoid using of Polythene and Asbestos which are known as major threats to the people's health and environment.Under this the use of Polythene will be banned from 01st of January 2016 and the importing and production of Asbestos will be totally banned from 01st of January 2018 the President has said.
President Sirisene has revealed that he wants to stop using Polythene and to avoid importing and production of Asbestos when he was the Health Minister but has failed to implement them.
The President has made these remarks during a ceremony held today (29) at President's House to hand over of certificates to the school children in Kandy District under the Environmental Service Programme
