Police Fired Tear Gas To Disperse A Group Of Cricket Fans Protested Out Side The Dambulla International Cricket Stadium

Image result for dambulla cricket groundPolice fired tear gas this noon to disperse a group of protestors protested out side the  Dambulla International Cricket Stadium by blocking  the main road demanding they should be allowed to enter the Cricket Stadium to view the fourth one day international Cricket Match between Sri Lanka and Australia although the organizers had announced the Tickets for the match had  sold out.

Accordingly some in the group of protesting cricket fans were hooting and damaging the boards at the stadium by demanding that they should be allowed to enter the grounds to view the day night match.

However Australia managed to wrap up the one day international match series currently on against Sri Lanka today by winning the match with one game remaining to play.

The third one day international cricket match between Sri Lanka and Australia which played at the Dambulla Cricket Stadium on Sunday attended by 45,000 spectators although the ground has a capacity to hold  only 18,000 spectators it has been reported.

UN Secretary General Has Arrived In Sri Lanka For An Official Visit

Image result for ban ki moonUnited Nations secretary general Ban Ki Moon has arrived in Sri Lanka for an official visit around two hours ago.

The UN Secretary General who  accompanied by his wife had arrived in Sri Lanka  from Myanmar and met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe and held talks  on his arrival today .

He is due to meet President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow (01) and  will be leaving for Galle  on the same day  to participate an event under the theme ,",Reconciliation And Coexistence Of Youth".

On Friday (02) the UN Secretary General is due to visit Jaffna and later in the day he is expected  to leave  for China to participate  the G-20  Summit according to sources.


Police Used Tear Gas And Water Canons To Disperse The Protest March Of University Students

Image result for tear gasPolice Officers  fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a large number of  university students who  staged a protest march by blocking the Galle road in Colpetty this evening caused heavy traffic congestion in the area.

The protesting university students had  toppled the road barricades used by the police to avoid protest march proceeding further

The Protest March which began from Sri Jayawardanapura University Premises this morning was heading towards Prime Minister's official residence Temple Trees at the time of the incident.

The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) organized the protest march by demanding to increase the university intake and against the Private Medical Collage in Malabe.

Cabinet Approved A Proposal To Name Sri Lanka Police Department As "Sri Lanka Police"

The Sri Lanka Police Department which celebrates it's 150th anniversary this year has been decided to adapt a standard name for the Department.

Accordingly the Cabinet has approved the name proposed by the Minister of Law and Order through the Cabinet Paper.

Bribery Commission Has Filed A Case Aginst Former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe And Seven Others

Image result for bribery commissionThe Bribery Commission has today(31) filed a case at Colombo Chief Magistrate Court against former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe(The brother of former president Mahinda Rajapakshe) and seven others including Nisssanka Senadhipathi who is the owner of the Avant Guarde Security Services Limited which handled the floating armory over authorizing the establishing of Avant Guarde floating armory in an unlawful manner.

Due to the floating armory handled by Avant Guarde Security Services the Sri Lankan government has lost Rs.11.4 billion the Bribery Commission has accused.

Accordingly Bribery Commission has filed the case against former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe,Palitha Piyasiri Fernando,Karunaratne .B.A.Godakawela,Somathilake Dissanayake,Nissanka Senadhipathi,Sujatha Damayanthi Jayaratne,Jayanath Colombage and Jayartana Perera.
