Vice President Of World Bank For South Asia Region Arrived In Sri Lanka

The vice president of World Bank for the South Asia region Annette Dixon has arrived in Sri Lanka today(29) for a two day official visit.

During her visit she is due to meet with several senior state officials and hold talks it has been reported.The Vice President of the World Bank is also due to inspect few projects implemented in the Northern Province.

After assumed her duties as a vice president of the World Bank  in 2014 this is the third time Annette Dixon visiting Sri Lanka.

A Six Year Old Girl Had Drowned While Bathing In Kala Oya

A six year old girl had drowned at Kala Oya(Anuradhapura District) this morning near Galganuwa  area while bathing there it has been reported.The girl was on her way home after went to Anuradhapura for picnic with her family members when this tragedy occurred it has been reported.

The deceased girl who is a resident of Thihariya In Kalagedihena area was rescued.but succumbed to her injuries on the admission to Thambuththegama Base Hospital according to reports.

The remains of the girl is there at the Hospital pending s post mortem.

Three Persons Were Killed And One Injured And Hospitalized Due To Road Accidents In Katunayake And Southern Express Highways

Three persons were killed and one person critically  injured as a result of two separate road accidents occurred on Katunayake and Southern Express Highways last evening and this morning .

Accordingly two persons were killed and another injured as the car they were traveling in crashed into a lamp post at near the interchange of Katunayake Express Highway at Ja Ela and  the critically injured person a 19 year old boy was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital it has been reported.

In another incident a 25 year old was killed at Akmmemana in Southern Express Highway last evening as a result of a Car-Cab collision.The body of the deceased had been sent to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.

A Sudden Fire Erupted At Jaya Terminal In Colombo Harbor

A sudden fire has erupted in a Stock of Rubber Pipes stored at Eastern Jaya Terminal at the Colombo Harbor short while ago according to the sources.

The fire fighters are currently engaging in dousing the flames of fire with the help of Police and Army Personal the sources have stated.

Soft drinks are the beverage of choice for millions of Americans, but sugary drinks increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions.

• People who consume sugary drinks regularly—1 to 2 cans a day or more—have a 26% greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes than people who rarely have such drinks. (46)
• A study that followed 40,000 men for two decades found that those who averaged one can of a sugary beverage per day had a 20% higher risk of having a heart attack or dying from a heart attack than men who rarely consumed sugary drinks. (47) A related study in women found a similar sugary beverage–heart disease link. (48)

• A 22-year-long study of 80,000 women found that those who consumed a can a day of sugary drink had a 75% higher risk of gout than women who rarely had such drinks. (49) Researchers found a similarly-elevated risk in men. (50)

• Dr. Frank Hu, Professor of Nutrition and Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, recently made a strong case that there is sufficient scientific evidence that decreasing sugar-sweetened beverage consumption will reduce the prevalence of obesity and obesity-related diseases. (51)

World Health Organization Has Donated Rs.80 Million Worth Medical Supplies To The Health Ministry

The World Health Organization has last Friday (26) donated a stock of Rs.80 million worth medical supplies equipment including four fully equipped mobile hospitals for the use of patients during emergency disaster situations to the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine.

The donated mobile hospitals are equipped with surgical equipment,hospital furniture and several other equipment which can use when treating patients it has been reported.
