Two Former Ministers Had Given Statements To The Presidential Commission Of Inquiry

Two former Ministers Johnston Fernando and Rohitha Abeygunawardena had today (08) given statements to the Presidential Commission Of Inquiry regarding the allegations leveled against them according to sources.

Accordingly the former minister Johnston Fernando had given a statement to the commission regarding importing a rice stock to "Sathosa" during the previous government without getting Cabinet Approval.

The former minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena had given a statement to the commission regarding the allegation leveled against him on misuse of public funds at the water filling ceremony and the opening ceremony of Hambanthota Harbor in 2010.

Sri Lanka To Inform WHO That The Country Has Eliminated Malaria

The Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has decided to inform the World Health Organization[WHO] in this September that Sri Lanka has eliminated the Disease Malaria from the country and eligible to receive the WHO certification regarding it.

The Ministry will be informed on this during a regional health conference scheduled to be held in early September this year the Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala has stated today[08] during a press briefing held at the Health . 

Sri Lanka has already eliminated filaria from the country and received the WHO certification last July.

Health Ministry Has Invited The Oncolologists To Discuss On Controversial Russian Made Cancer Drug Supplied To The Cancer Hospital

The Ministry of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has invited the Oncologists[Cancer Specialists] attached to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital to discuss why the some oncologists are refusing to administer  the controversial Russian Made Drug "Herticad" to the patients which  supplied  to the  hospital.

The drug which is widely used  to treat breast cancer had been refused to use by  some oncologists attached to the Cancer Hospital  citing quality problems it has been reported.

Although the price is low, the quality of the Russian Made Drug Is up to the standard the Health Ministry has stated.

Non Academic Staff Strike Has Ended

The Non Academic Staffers of all state universities who were engaging in strike since 27th of July have ended their strike this noon after held successful discussions with Minister Of Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella.

Earlier the unions of the University Non Academic Staff held talks with State Minister Of Higher Education Mohan Lal Grero which ended in a positive note .

The Non Academic Staff Of the state universities have launched the strike by demanding a solutions proper pension scheme,extending their retirement age and reducing the salary anomalies.

Imprisoned Former Minister Basil Rajapakshe Had Released On Bail

The Colombo High Court has today(08) granted bail to imprisoned former Minister Of Economic Development Basil Rajapakshe who was detained last month over misappropriation of  the state funds and supply building materials to District Councils.

The former Minister was detained by Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division(FCID) on 18th of July.However soon after remanded by Kaduwela Magistrate Court he was admitted to the Merchants Ward of the Colombo National Hospital following his complaint on chest pain.

Popular Veteran Stage  and Tele Drama Actor Vijaya Nandasiri has passed  away today(08) at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital(Southern Colombo) according to sources.

The 69 year old actor is  locally popular as a natural comedian through some of his popular tele drama's including "Nonawaruni Mahathwaruni" and "Yess Boss".He has also acted in several Sinhala films.

Vijaya Nandasiri is married to Sri Lanka's first Tele Drama Actress Devika Mihirani.
