VAT To Remain As 11% Until A Relevent Legislation Passed AT Parliament

As the supreme court issued an interim order to suspend the VAT (value added tax) increase VAT will remain as 11% until a relevent legislation is passed in the parliament the minister of finance Ravi Karunanayake has stated today (11).

Once the legislation passed at the parliament VAT will be increased by 4% from 11% to 15% the minister has revealed.

Earlier government has announced a VAT increase on certain goods and services by 4% with effect from 02nd of may this year.Due to this prices of most of the essential goods including food to cloths in the market had risen and caused various difficulties to  consumers.

MP Namal Rajapakshe Was Remanded Until 18th Of July By Colombo Fort Magistrate

The Hambanthota District MP Namal Rajapakshe who was detained by Police financial crimes investigations division(FCID) this noon  has been remanded until 18th of July by the Colombo Fort Magistrate short while ago.

The MP was remanded after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate.He was detained this noon by the FCID over an allegation leveled against him regarding his involvement in an illegal financial transaction with an Indian real estate  Company "Krish" Group.

Supreme Court Issued An Interim Order By Suspending The Increase Of VAT

Image result for court orderThe supreme court has today(11) issued an interim order by suspending the increase of value added tax(VAT).

Supreme Court has issued the order after considering a petition filed by National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansha seeking a court order to revoke the decision on increasing VAT.

The petition has sought a court interim order to prevent relevant authorities from ordering the public to pay VAT and it also argued that parliament approval is must before the VAT is increased.

Government has increased VAT on certain goods and services by 4% with effect from 02nd of May 2016.

Around 29 Passengers Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Bus Accident In Kandy

Image result for accidentAround 29 passengers including 06 school children were injured and hospitalized this morning as the bus they were traveling in veered off the  Kandy-Madulkelle road and crashed into a wall.

 The injured were admitted to the Madulkelle Base Hospital for treatment.
 
 Panvila Police are conducting investigations on the accident.

MP Namal Rajapakshe Has Been Detained By FCID

MP Rajapakshe was detained after he has given a statement to FCID regarding the irregularity.He is due to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate this evening.

MP Namal Rajapakshe's uncle former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe too arrived at FCID this morning to give a statement regarding allegation leveled against him.
