A Group Of Opposition MP'S Handed over A No Confidence Motion Against Finance Minister

Image result for no confidence motionA Group of Opposition MP'S have  yesterday(27) handed over a no confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake to the  Parliamentary Speaker Karu Jayasuriya with Signatures of  44 MP'S .

The Opposition Members belonging to United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) have decided to bring a No Confidence Motion against Finance Minister by claiming the Minister has mislead the Parliament by stating around 5.6 % from Gross Domestic Product has been allocated for Education through the 2016-Annual Budget.

Meanwhile Finance Minister Karunanayake has told earlier that he will not afraid to face the No Confidence Motion and those who are behind this move have done so due to lost their perks through the budget presented by him.

Thirty Ninth Auditor General Has Assumed Duties

Mr.Gamini Wijesinghe has today (27) assumed duties as  39th  Auditor General of Sri Lanka.He is the former Director General Of  Sri Lanka Accounting And Auditing Standards Monitoring Board.

Mr.Wijesinghe will be succeeding  the outgoing Auditor General  Mr.S Swarnajothi who was holding the position since 2007.

Heavy Traffic Prevailed In Borella(In Colombo) Area This Evening Due To A Protest March Launched By University Students.

A Heavy Traffic has been reported from Borella(In Colombo) Area this evening due to a protest march launched By a large number of University Students over several demands including the Close Down of Private Medical Collage in Malabe .

The Five Day  Protest March organized by Inter University Students Federation was began from Kandy and has ended this evening at Parliament Roundabout .

Meanwhile a court order was issued by this morning preventing the protesters from traveling towards  the Parliament from Polduwa Bridge.

Six Suspects Including Former DIG Vaas Gunawardene And His Son Have Been Sentenced To Death Over Abducting And Murder Of Businessman Mohomad Shiyam

Image result for court orderSix Suspects including the Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG)Of Police Vaas Gunawardene and his Son Ravindu have been sentenced to death today(27) by the Colombo High Court Trial At Bar after being found guilty for abducting and murder of Local Businessman Mohomad Shiyam.  

The verdict of the case was delivered by the Colombo High Court Trial At Bar comprising Judges Lalith Jayasuriye,Amendra Seneviratne and Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena .

Out of the Five of the Six Suspects sentenced to death today over the abduction and murder of Businessman Shiyam are Police Officers.

Businessman Mohomad Shiyam was abducted and murdered at Dompe (In Western Province) Area on 22nd Of May.

Bribery Commission Had Filed Five Cases Against Former Minister Johnston Fernando For Not Declaring His Assets

The Commission To Investigate Allegations Of Bribery Or Corruption had filed five cases against Former Minister of The United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Government Johnston Fernando Regarding  failure to declare his assets during the period 2010 to 2014.

The cases have been filed at the Colombo Magistrate Court.

The Former Minister Of Trade And Cooperatives Johnston Fernando has failed to declare his assets during the four year period according to Bribery Commission.

OIC Of Crimes Division In Narahenpita Police Has Been Arrested While Accepting Rs.2.5 Million As A Bribe

The Officer In Charge (OIC) of the Crimes Division in Narahenpita Police(In Colombo) has been arrested by Bribery Commission Officers this evening at Kohuwala Area while accepting Rs.2.5 million as a bribe .

The OIC has been arrested around 3.30 p.m this evening while accepting the bribe from  a Doctor to avoid lodging  a court case against him for an offence committed by the Doctor according to Bribery Commission.

The Gazette Notification regarding the reducing Prices of Five other essential commodities has been issued with effect from 24th of November according to Consumer Affairs Authority.

Accordingly Prices of Katta and Salaya Dried Fish ,400 Gramme  Locally Produced Milk Powder Packs,Dhal And Sprats have been reduced under the gazette notification.

The Prices of these Commodities have been reduced through the 2016-Annual Budget presented to the Parliament on last Friday(20).

Sri Lankan Navy Have Arrested 15 Indian Fishermen Yesterday(26) Morning Whiile Fishing In Northern Sri Lankan Seas

Sri Lankan Navy have arrested 15 Indian Fishermen yesterday (26) morning who have fishing in Sri Lankan Waters by violating international maritime Boundary Line.

The Navy with the assistance of Sri Lankan Coast Guard have arrested 09 Indian Fishermen at Northern Seas near Delft Island and 06 at seas near Thalaimannar .Navy also have taken into custody   three fishing boats which these fishermen were traveling  in .

The 15  detained Indian Fishermen have been later handed over to the Fisheries Offices in  Jaffna and Thalaimannar.

Ministry Of Women's And Child Affairs To Suggest Attorney General's Department To Allow Courts To Hear Child Abuse Cases Single Day Per Week

The Ministry Of Women's And Child Affairs has decided to suggest the Attorney General's Department to allow Courts to hear Child Abuse Cases at least a Day per Week in view of reducing the large number of Child Abuse Cases pending for years.

According to the Ministry Secretary Chndrani Seneviratne The Women's And Child Affairs Ministry is  still holding talks with Attorney General's Department regarding ways to reduce the pending Child and Women Abuse cases struck at courts for years,

"As an initial step the Ministry has decided to suggest Courts should allow a single day per week to hear Child Abuse Cases Only " She has stressed.

Police To Take Legal Action Against 725 Motorists Who Violated Traffic Line Laws During today(26)


Legal Action will be taken against around 725 Motorists in Colombo City  who  violated Traffic Line Laws which were strictly implemented with effect from today(26) during the period  6 a.m to 4 p.m according to Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera.


Police have been strictly implemented the Traffic Line Laws applicable to Carriageways in Colombo City with effect from today(26).

Majority Of Rape Victims Reported From Sri Lanka Are Girls Under 16 Years Of Age-UNFPA

The Majority Of Rape Victims reported from Sri Lanka are girls under 16 years of Age according to United Nations Fund For Population Activities(UNFPA).

The sexual harassment against girl child in the local society is on the increase and due to this situation teenage pregnancies and abortions among them have also increased the UNFPA has said.

It has been reported that 6.5% of the Sri Lankan Girls becomes pregnant or deliver their first baby before they celebrate their 19 th Birthday  UNFPA has further said.

Water ,Electricity And Telecommunication Rates Will Not Be Increased-Finance Minister

The VAT from Wholesale and Retail Trade has been totally free and it reduced by 11% to 0% Minister has stressed.

Earlier there were rumors that Water and Electricity Rates may  goes up due to the amended VAT System introduced through the budget.

Around Nine Persons In Sri Lanka Are Being Infected With HIV/AIDS Virus Per Week -Director Of National STD/AIDS Control Programme

Around Nine Persons in Sri Lanka are being  infected with HIV/AIDS Virus per week and Four new HIV Positive Cases are being reported  per week according to the Director Of National Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)/AIDS Campaign Dr.Sisira Liyanage.

Although Sri Lanka has been rated as a low prevalence country in the world on spreading HIV/AIDS there's a great risk of spreading the disease  rapidly in  the local society due to the increasing  number of unprotected sexual behaviors   Dr.Liyanage has stressed.

Around 69% of the HIV/AIDS Positives reported from Sri Lanka Annually have been contacted the virus through  heterosexual relationships he has said.However the HIV Infection amongst Male to Male sexual contacts are on the increase Dr.Liyanage has further said.

As this year's World AIDS Day theme is "Test Today" Dr.Liyanage has requested from those who are having  unprotected sexual  behavior to go for a test immediately  to check whether they are infected with HIV/AIDS Virus or not.

This year's World AIDS DAY which falls on 01st Of December is due to be commemorated in Batticloe (Eastern Province)by  Ministry Of Health ,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine along with National STD/AIDS Campaign.

Two Youth Who Were In Critical Condition Due To Consuming Poison Admitted To Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital

Two Young Males who were in critical condition due to consuming  poison at a room of a Holiday Resort attach to Anuradhapura Railway Station (In North Central Province) have been admitted to the Anuradhpura Teaching Hospital today(25) according to the Police.

The two youth aged 26 and 37 were reported as staying in the Holiday Resort since 22nd Of November.

Anuradhapura Police are conducting further investigations on the incident.

President Sirisena Had Instructed The Finance Minister To Increase The Decreased Import Tax On Low Alcohol Beer

President Maithripala Sirisena has today (25) instructed Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake to increase the import  tax imposed on Beer with less than 5% Alcohol Content which has been decreased through the 2016-Annual Budget .

Finance Minister had suggested to decrease the import tax on Beer with less than 5% Alcohol Content from Rs.190 to Rs.160 through the Annual Budget presented to the Parliament on last Friday(20).

However President has instructed Finance Minister to increase the import tax on low alcohol beer as through decreasing the tax will be a promotion act for it.

Consumer Affairs Authority Has Launched Raids To Check Whether The Traders Are Implementing The Price Reductions Of Commodities

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has launched a series of raids to check whether the local traders are implementing the price reductions of commodities introduced through  2016- Annual Budget presented to Parliament on  last Friday.

The Prices of 11 Essential Commodities including Gas have been reduced with effect from 20th of November through the Budget.However the Consumer Affairs Authority has received complaints from several consumers that the traders are still not yet implemented the new price reductions .

The Authority is requesting the consumers to inform on traders who are not implementing the said price reductions to either  the number 1977 or to the  Consumer Affairs Authority.
