More Than 200,000 Residents In Kalutara Are Being Faced Drinking Water Problem-Water Is Distributing Through Bowsers

More than 200,000 residents in four
divisional Secretariets of Kalurara District are being faced with a shortage of  drinking water due to mixing of salt of sea water to the water of Kalu River it has been reported.

Due to this situation Disaster Management Center has taken steps to distribute drinking water to the people living in Kalutara,Beruwala,Panadura and Dodangoda divisional Secretariets  through bowsers .

Although the sea water has been  mixed with the water of Kalu River ,Water purification plant in Kethhena ,Kalutara is continuing supplying the water to the Kalutara District according to Water Supplies and Drainage Board.However Board does not encourage the public to use this water for drinking purposes other than washing and cleaning purposes it has been announced.

Sea water has mixed up with water in Kalu River due to the receding of  water levels in the river as a result of the present dry weather conditions .
