Seventy Five Persons Had Been Killed By Wild Elephants And 150 Wild Elephants Had Been Killed By Humans During Last Eight Months

Around 75 persons had been killed due to Wild Elephant attacks and 150 Wild Elephants had been killed due to various human activities during last eight months of this year (2018) according to Minister Of Sustainable Development and Wild Life Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka .

Around 25 percent of the crop cultivation in Sri Lanka had been destroyed annually by Wild Elephants he had stated during a function held at Nandimithra area in Vavuniya during the weekend .

"Will try to minimise the damages done to property and crops by Wild Elephants .To protect humans and their properties from Wild Elephants around 4500 Kilo meter long Elephant Fence had been built already and another 2500 Kilo meters remainEd to be built " Field Marshal Fonseka has stressed .

Around Rs.five billion had been spent to construction and maintainance work of Elephant Fence and 7000 Wild Life officers and Civil security Personal are due to be deployed to protect the fence he said .
