President Maithripala Sirisena has today(14)instructed the Secretary of the Ministey of Enviornment and and Director General of Wild Life to keep the two rare Elephants located in Sinharaja Forest reserve further there till formation of a formal mechsnism regarding them and implament it.
"Surakimu Sri Lanka" Organization (Protect Sri Lanka Organization) has recently complained that the Minister of Wild Life Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has decided to move the two Elephants from the Sinharaja Forest Reserve to Horovpathana Elephant Center.UNESCO Has informed that the Sinharaja reserve will loose the World heritage status if the two elephants are move to another place the Organization has stated.
The Director General of Wild Life has said that a decision has been taken to move the two Elephants from Sinharaja for their safety and to avoid threats posed from them to villagers nearby.
