Cabinet has decided not to increase the water tariffs by 30% as per the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena .However Cabinet has appointed a three member Ministerial Committee comprising with Ministers Ravi Karunanayake,Rauf Hakeem and Dr.Sarath Amunugama to study ways that could increase water tariffs without adding any burden to the public ,Minister Of Petroleum and Petroleum Gasses Chandima Weerakkody has stated during a press briefing held at Parliamentary Complex today(15).
The Water Supply and Drainage Board has last Saturday(12) announced that the Board has decided to increase water tariffs by 30% with effect from 01st of December.
