The Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has today (24)informed the Monitory Board that he will not seeking an extension of his term until the committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) cleared his name from the charges leveled against him .The Central Bank Governor who had faced an allegation regarding a treasury bond issue is due to leave his post on 30th of June as his term finishes that day.
A large number of Trade Unions,Civil Society Groups ,Opposition Members and Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) members have requested the president maithripala sirisena not to extend the term of Central Bank Governor Mahendren due to an allegation leveled against him that he had involved in the controversial treasury bond issue.
