The Irrigation Department has today (16)requested people living on the banks of Six Rivers in the island to be on alert on floods as the water levels of them are increasing to major flood.Accordingly flood alerts issued to the people living on the banks of Kelani Ganga,Maduru Oya,Maha Oya,Mahawali Ganga,Kelani Ganga and Attanagalu Oya.
Meanwhile seven spill gates of Daduru Oya were opened yesterday(15) as water level reached it's spill level .Authorities have requested the people living in Puttalam,Chilaw,Mahawa,Pallama, Nikaweratiya and Bingiriya to be vigilant .
