There's a Severe Shortage of around 36,430 Nurses in Government Hospitals throughout the island at present according to the President Of All Ceylon Nurses Union Mr.Gamini Kumarasinghe.
Although the World Health Organization(WHO) has been recommended that there should be 64,430 Nurses available in government hospitals only 28,000 Nurses are available in Hospitals at present Mr.Kumarasinghe has said.
Due to the severe shortage of Nurses prevails in Government Hospitals these days a Single Nurse need to cover the work of three nurses he has revealed.
The new entrants recruited for Nurses Training annually too are not sufficient to ease the nurses shortage the President of the Nurses Union has stressed.
The All Ceylon Nurses Union has decided to conduct a massive protest campaign in front of the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine on next Tuesday by demanding solutions for several demands of Government Nurses including the severe nurses shortage and the establishing of the proposed new Nursing Constitution.
