A 15 year old Elephant allegedly kept by former MP of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Government, Sajin Vaas Gunawardene has been taken in to custody by officials of the Wild Life Department today(18).The Elephant has been taken in to custody by the Police due to a permit problem the sources have said.
The Elephant had been kept at the Hirewatta Buddhist Temple in Ambalangoda(In Southern Province) over the years and former MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena has hired a mahout to take care of the Elephant for past ten years sources have revealed.
The Elephant in custody is due to be handed over to the Uda Walawe Elephant Home.
