Sri Lankan Ambassador To Nepal Had Appealed Sri Lankans Not To Visit Lumbini Until Further Notice

Due to the wave of public protests prevails in Nepal these days the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal W.M Seneviratne had appealed the Sri Lankans not to visit Lord Buddha's Birth Place Lumbini (In Nepal) until further notice.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador had also requested all Sri Lankans who are planning to visit Lumbini  to contact the following numbers of  Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepali Capital Kathmandu prior to their visits.The numbers are 0097 714720623 and 0097 714720213.

Four People who were engaged in violent demonstrations held in Sothern Plains against the proposed new constitution of Nepal have been shot dead by the Police on Wednesday.

Four Armed Robbers Have Robbed Rs.1.5 Million In Cash From A State Bank In Hanwella

Four Armed Robbers who entered a State Owned Bank branch situated in Hanwella ( In Colombo District)this evening have robbed Rs.1. 5 million in cash and fled away according to Police.The robbers who were armed with guns arrived  from two motor bikes and entered the bank building by wearing helmets it has been reported.

After entering the bank building  robbers have attacked the security guard who was there inside the bank at that time and snatched his fire arm before the robbery.The injured Security Guard was admitted to Kosgama-Salawa Hospital for treatment.

Colombo Public Health Department Has Identified 26 Premises In Colombo With Dengue Breeding Places

On the first day of the National Mosquito Control Week which commenced today(10) the Colombo Public Health Department has inspected 3222 Houses,Institutes and Schools within Colombo City limits during the day and found 26 premises with dengue breeding places according to the Chief Medical Officer of Colombo Dr.Ruwan Wijemuni.

Another 254 premises have been identified as risky places which can breed dengue mosquitoes he has stressed.

The Colombo Public Health Department has decided to take legal action against  26 premises found with dengue breeding places.

Three Civil Society Representatives Have Been Nominated For The Constitutional Council

The Three Civil Society Representatives have been nominated  for the Constitutional Council today(10).The three members are Dr.Radhika Kumaraswamy,Dr.A.T Ariyaratne and Shibly Aziz.

These three Civil Society Representatives are due to be appointed to the Constitutional Council during next few days with the approval of Parliament the sources said.

Cabinet Ministers Patali Champika Ranwake and Wijedasa Rajapakshe were appointed to the Constitutional Council earlier as the representatives of President and Prime Minister respectively.JVP MP Vijitha Herath has been also nominated for the Council

The Council which comprising seven members is due to establish Nine Independent Commissions including the Police Commission and monitoring the affairs of the commissions.

Four Presdiential Security Division Personal Were Killed Due To A Defender -Private Bus Collision

Four Police Personal attached to the Presidential Security Division (PSD) have been killed and Six others injured this morning when the Defender Vehicle they were traveled in collided with two Private Buses at Yagodamulla in Minuwangoda (In Western Province)Area.Out of the four victims two have died at the spot and other two died after admitted to the Gampaha Hospital with fatal injuries.

The Defender Vehicle which the PSD Personal were traveled in collided with two buses on the road when the Defender tried to overtake one bus according to the Police.Ten PSD Personal who were in the  Defender were on their way to a funeral house when they met with
the accident  Police have said.

Air Port Customs Have Arrested A Sri Lankan Who Attempted To Smuggle Rs.Millions Worth Gold Pieces To The Country Hidden In His Rectum

The Air Port Customs Officers have arrested a Sri Lankan National at the Katunayake Bandaranaike  International Air Port early  yesterday(09) morning when he attempted to smuggle nearly  1 Kilo Grammes Of Gold  Pieces to the country worth more than Rs.4 .6 million .The Gold Pieces weighing 925.7 Grammes  were found concealed in his rectum according to  the custom officers.

The custom officers have arrested the 59 year old suspect who is a Colombo Resident after  returned from Bangkok , Thailand .

After an initial inquiry the Air Port Customs have forfeited the  Gold Pieces and  fined a penalty of Rs.300 ,000 from the suspect.

"Do Not Expect A Government Change Until 2020' President Sirisene Told Newly Appointed State And Deputy Ministers

President Maithripala Sirisene has told the newly appointed State and Deputy Ministers of the Unitary Government not to expect a government change until 2020 by stating the present government is strong and stable.

"Due to the stability of this government no one will be able to topple or weaken it" the president has stated.

President Sirisene has made these remarks at the swearing in ceremony of  forty one state and deputy ministers held at Presidential Secretariat this evening.

Special Commodity Levies Imposed On Imported Potatoes And Sugar Have Been Increased

The Special Commodity Levies imposed on Imported Potatoes and Sugar have been increased By Rs.10 and Rs.12 per Kilo Gramme respectively according to the Ministry Of Finance.These Special Commodity Levies are due to be increased with effect from midnight tonight.

The Finance Ministry has decided to increase the Commodity Levy imposed on Potatoes because Potato Crop of local farmers  reaching the market these days the Ministry Sources have said.

Although the Special Commodity Levy imposed on imported sugar has been increased it will not affect the prices of  Sugar in  the local  market sources have added.

Three new Cabinet Ministers have sworn in this noon before President Maithripala Sirisene at the Presidential Secretariat.The new Ministers sworn in today are Faizar Mustapha (UPFA) as Minister Of Local Government and Provincial Councils,Malik Samarawickrama(UNP) as Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade and Vijith Wijemuni Soyza(UPFA) as Minister of Irrigation.

With these new ministers the total number of Cabinet Ministers now arisen to 46.Last Friday 43 Cabinet Ministers have been sworn in before President.

Meanwhile a total of 45 state and deputy ministers are due to be sworn in before president this evening.

Paddy Marketing Board Has Been Purchased 102,797 Metric Tonnes Of Paddy From Farmers This Yala Season

The Paddy Marketing Board has been so far purchased 102,797 Metric Tonnes of Paddy  from the farmers during this Yala Harvest Season according to the government sources.

Out of this purchased stock of Paddy 97,458 Metric Tonnes are Nadu Variety , 5069 Metric Tonnes are of Samba Variety and 270 Metric Tonnes are Keeri Samba Variety.

The government has allocated Rs.6000 Million for this year to purchasing paddy from farmers and so far Rs.4652 Million has been spent for that purpose according to sources.

Imprisoned Former UPFA MP Sajin Vaas Has Been Further Remanded

The imprisoned former Parliamentarian attach to the United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Sajin Vaas Gunawardene who is in remand for allegedly misusing the vehicles belonging to Presidential Secretariat has been further remanded until 22nd of September by Colombo Fort Magistrate today(08).

The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division has  summoned the former UPFA Parliamentarian  to record a statement on 11th of May and later arrested him.

Earlier The Colombo High Court had dismissed a bail application filed behalf of Sajin Vaas Gunawardene by his counsel,.

Two Persons Who Attempted To Offer Rs.1.5 Million Bribe To Sapugaskande Police OIC Detained

The Officials of the Bribery Commission have  today (08)arrested the brother in law of  former chairman of the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha and his associate  who attempted to offer the OIC of Sapugaskande Police Rs.1.5 Million bribe .

The two suspects who were arrested at the Car Park of Mahara Prison this morning have attempted to bribe the OIC in a bid to request him to amend the charges leveled against former chairman of Wattala Pradeshiya Shaba who is in police custody regarding the death of a businessman.

The two suspects were arrested by Bribery Commission Officials on a tip off by the Sapugaskande Police OIC.

Magisterial Inquiry Regarding Floating Armory Case Has Been Terminated

The Magisterial Inquiry regarding the floating armory case  of Avant Guarde Maritime Services Private Limited has been terminated after the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) has informed the court that it will not proceed the case under the advise of Attorney General.

Last Week the Galle Magistrate Court has lifted the foreign travel ban imposed on former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe over the floating armory case.

Early this year the police have seized more than 3000 weapons in 20 containers through the armory run by Avant Guarde Maritime Services Private Limited and docked in Galle Harbor.
