General Fonseka To Face New Charges


Retired General Sarath Fonseka who got arrested by the Military Police two weeks ago will face new charges under the Penal Code and Exchange Control Act within next two weeks Minister Professor G.L Pieris said today.According to the Minister General Fonseka will face charges in Civil Court.

General Fonseka who was the common presidential candidate of the opposition at the concluded presidential elections is due to face Court Martial Trial and according to the Government Sources the recording of the evidences on the charges leveled against him are almost on the finishing line.

Supreme Court Refused To Release General Fonseka


Sri Lankan Supreme Court today refused to issue an order to release Former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka after considering the Fundamental Rights violation case filed by his wife Mrs.Anoma Fonseka.

However the Court allowed access to His Wife,Immediate Family Members and lawyers to see him.

Government To Introduced Electoral Reforms After Regaining Power


The Ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Spokesman Sri Lankan Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma said today that the Government will introduced an Electoral Reforms with a New Constitution within Six Months after coming to Power from the forthcoming General Elections scheduled to be held in next April.

Tamil Journalist Tissanayagam Was Released On Bail


Tamil Journalist J S Tissanayagam who was imprisoned over allegation on collecting money and supporting for the LTTE Activities was granted Bail by the Appeals Court and due to get freed tomorrow.He was freed on Personal Bail according to Judicial Sources.

He was sentenced to 20years of vigorous Imprisonment under the Terrorism Prevention Act.

One Woman Supporter of the Common Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka was killed and Four other supporters were injured when an unidentified Man Came from Motor Bike was fired a Group of Supporters who were traveling from a Bus at Tangalle to attend an Election Rally.These Supporters were on their way to a Rally organized by the Hambantota UNF MP Sajith Premadasa when the Gun men appeared and shot at them.

Police is conducting an Investigations in to the Incident and President Mahinda Rajapaksha too instructed Inspector General Of Police Mahinda Balasuriya to conduct an Impartial Inquiry in to the incident.

Mayor of Batticaloe Ms.Sivageetha Prabhakaren of Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) today expressed her support to Common Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka during a Press Briefing held in Colombo today.According to Ms.Prabhakaren her security personal were removed by the authorities immediately after her announcement of supporting General Fonseka has been made.

Father of the slain ed LTTE Leader Velupillai Prabhakaren Thiruvengadam Velupillai was died last night on natural causes while in the Military Protection.The father of the LTTE Leader who is 86 was suffering from several disorders including paralysis and he was recently got admitted to the National Hospital Colombo for treatment.

Government And Opposition Supporters Clashed At Kiribathgoda


Kiribathgoda Area bacame a small battlefield this morning as the Government Supporters are clashed with a group of United National Party(UNP)and Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) supporters who were distributed leaflets in the area to support opposition Candidate General Sarath Fonseka.Riot Police rushed to the scene as the Government Supporters equipped with poles and stones are hitting the opposition Supporters.

Riot Police used Tear Gas to disperse the attackers.Three got injured due to the incident and admitted to the North Colombo Teaching Hospital according to the Police.

Meanwhile addressing a Press Briefing in Colombo JVP MP Vijitha Herath said that the Thugs belongs to the Mad Dog in the area attacked peaceful Opposition Supporters.

The Price of the Government Owned Laugfs Gas has been reduced by Rs.60 with effect from Midnight Tomorrow(31).According to the Government Sources the New Price of the Laugfs Gas is Rs.1421.However the Price of the Shell Gas remains as Rs.1550 per cylinder.

Petrol Prices Reduced From Midnight Tonight


The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation(CPC)and Lanka Indian Oil Company(IOC)reduced the Prices of Two Varieties of Petrol with effect from Midnight today.According to the new Price Revision the 90 Octane Petrol will be selling for Rs.115 and 95 Octane Petrol is Rs.133.

However the Prices of Diesel will remained unchanged.

Television and Radio Channels halted their Regular Programmes on 9.25 A.M this morning the time which the 8.9 Richter Scale Tsunami was Strucked here.

The Ship "Princess Christiana" which came to rescue the deceased LTTE Leader Prabhakaran and later seized by Sri Lankan Navy within Sri Lankan Shores is currently anchored at Galle Face Green in Colombo for Public View.The Ship will be open for Public View tomorrow according to the Government Sources.

The Ship equipped with an Air Craft was heading towards Sri Lanka to save LTTE Leader who was killed during the Battle with Local Armed Forces on Last May.The Ship was brought to Colombo Harbor by Navy few days back.

Sri Lankan Cabinet Condemned The Allegations Of General Fonseka


Sri Lankan Cabinet Today condemned the allegations made by the Common Presidential Candidate Retired General Sarath Fonseka on that the Three Senior LTTE Cadres were shot dead by the Army on the Orders of the Government despite surrendering.

Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka said that the Cabinet met today criticized the Irresponsible and Blatant Comments made by General Fonseka during an Interview with a Senior Editor of Sunday Leader Paper.The said comment was Published in the Paper last week and General Fonseka clarified that he didn't made the said statement.

Leftist Janataha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP)who supported the General Fonseka on forthcoming Presidential Election said that the Government now planning to slinging mud against the General who is once a hero for them and trying to launch mission against him.

Registration Of Tamils Travelling To Colombo Relaxed.


The Registration Rules Imposed on the Tamils who are visiting Colombo are Temporarily relaxed with the Effect from today According to the Police.According to the Senior DIG Nimal Madiwaka Those Tamils who are either from North and East or from Abroad not have to Register with the Colombo Police as early rules.

However if A Tamil is staying in Colombo more then One Month then he should be get Registered in the Nearest Police Station.

Sri Lankan Government Lifted The Travel Restrictions On Visiting A-9 Road


Sri Lankan Government has decided to allow Normal Citizens to travel through A-9 Road to Jafna without getting permission from the Defense Ministry.Since the Sri Lankan Military had defeated the LTTE Rebels on last May Normal Citizens are not allow to use A-9 Road for travel purposes without getting permission from the Defense Authorities.

Meanwhile the Special Adviser to the President Mahinda Rajapaksha MP Basil Rajapaksha today announced that the Restrictions imposed on the Up Country Tamils when traveling to Down South will be lifted with the effect from tomorrow.Earlier Up Country Tamils need to get a Police Clarence when visiting Down South due to Security Concerns.

Popular Sri Lankan Surgeon Dr.Anthonis Passed Away


Veteran and Popular Surgeon Dr.P,R Anthonis who is known as One of the Greatest Surgeons produced by Sri Lanka was Passed away today at a Private Hospital in Colombo.He was 98 years old at the time of his death.The popular Surgeon became famous when he performed a marathon Six Hour Surgery to the Former Sri Lankan Prime Minister S.W.R.D Bandaranayake when he was shot by an unidentified gunman in 195o's.

Common Presidential Candidate General Fonseka Is In War With State Media


Sri Lanka's Common Presidential Candidate Retired General Sarath Fonseka today filed Three Fundamental Right Cases against the Three Major State Media Organizations on allegedly misusing of the State Media for political gains.

On these Fundamental Applications General Fonseka challenged the State Owned National Rupavahini Corporation,The Independent Television Network(ITN),and the News Papers published by the State owned Associated News Company Ltd for partially supporting the President Mahinda Rajapaksha on the forthcoming Presidential Election while try to defame the Opposition.General Fonseka recently requested the Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayaka to appoint an Authorized Officer to control State Media in the view of the forthcoming elections.

Sri Lanka Denied The Military Plane Arrested Was Heading To Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka's Government Information Department quoting the Government said today that the Russian Built Military Plane with War Weaponry got arrested yesterday was not heading towards Sri Lanka.Thai Media reports that the Plane with 5 member Crew including 1 Belarus National and 4 Kazakastani Nationals was en route to Sri Lanka as it stopped in Thai Air Port for refilling Fuel.

The Plane which carrying 35 tonnes of War Weaponry including Rocket Launchers was flying from North Korea.

All the Crew were detained by the Thai Security Personal and the War Weapons on board at the Plane were searched by the Security it has been reported. As Sri Lanka denied that the Plane was heading towards Colombo some officials said that the Crew may have told that they were heading to Sri Lanka in order to conceal their actual destination.

Miltary Plane Heading Towards Sri Lanka Arrested In Thailand


An Air Craft flying North Korea to Sri Lanka carrying 35 tonnes of Heavy War Weaponary was arrested with it's Crew at Thailand today the Thai Media has been reported.According to the reports The Air Craft Crew including One Belarus National and four Kazakasthan Nationals were detained.

The Russian Built IL-96 Air Military Transport Craft was arrested when it has touched down the Don Mueang Domestic Air Port in Bangkok for refilling Fuel.Around 100 Thai Security Personal were searched the Military Plane which beard the AW-732.The Plane believed to be heading towards Sri Lanka as the Two decade year old War against the Rebel LTTE Organization ended in last May.

Common Presidential Candidate General Fonseka To Handover Deposit Tomorrow?

The Common Presidential Candidate of the Joined Opposition Retired General Sarath Fonseka is due to hand over his Deposit to the Elections Commissioner's Office by tomorrow(11)  for the forthcoming Presidential Elections  Political Sources revealed.The main rival of General Fonseka in the Elections President Mahinda Rajapaksha's Deposit  was handed over to the Elections Commissioner Office few days ago by the Education Minister Susil Prema Jayantha.

The Nominations for the Presidential Elections is due to hand over on 17th of December and the Election is scheduled to be held in 26th of January 2010.

Around One Hundred Thousand Rubella Vaccines Were Expired Last Month

Around 100,000 Vials of Rubella Vaccines belongs to the National Immunization Campaign were Expired during the November this year after the Vaccine was suspended twice within the Year it has been revealed.Administering the Rubella Vaccine was suspended twice this year following the Deaths of two School Girls who died after administering the Vaccine.

However the TGA Laboratory of Australia which tested the Rubella Vaccine used in Sri Lanka given a Green Light on last  friday by stating that the Quality of the above Vaccine is Safe and Up to standard.But at the moment around 100,000 Rubella Vaccine Vials were out dated as their Expiry date appeared as November 2009.These Vials were purchased from the "Serum Insttiute Of India "in 2008 under the recommendation of the World Health Organization Sri Lankan Epidemeology Unit sources said.Around 300,000 Rubella Vaccines were imported to Sri Lanka in 2008 and out of this stock 200,000 vials were administered according to the sources.

Susanthika Due To Received Olympic Silver Medal

The International Athletic Officials had decided to re allocated the Gold Medal won by  US Sprinter Marion Jones at the Sydney Olympics in  year 2000 for 200 Meters  and as a result Silver Medal is awarded to Sri Lankan Sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe.Susanthika who was  secured a Bronze Medal at the Sydney Olympics became  the second Olympic Silver Medalist ever Sri Lanka has  produced.The First Sri Lankan Sprinter who was won a Silver Medal at Olympics for Sri Lanka was Sir Duncan White in 1948.


The Gold Medal won by  Marion Jones was  suspendad after she was found positive for using banned steroid during her event.

Police Fired Tear Gas To Disperse Protesting Assistant Teachers

Police fired Tear Gas this evening to disperse a large Group of Protesters belongs to the Assistant Trainee Teachers Union as they tried to March towards the President's Official Residence the Temple Trees.

The Assistant Teachers who are categorized as Teachers without Training are only recieved a sum of Rs.3000 as their Salary according to the Protesters.If the Government is not taking steps to Permenant their Posts around 100,000 Members of their Union will Vote against the Government at the forthcoming Presidential Elections Union Officials said.

Opposition Leader Ranil To Stay Away From The Premiership Of A Care Taker Government

Six Party Candidates today Handed Over their Deposits for the Forthcoming Presidential Elections.According to the Election Department Sources the Six Candidates who Deposited the Required Amount of Money  are P.D.A Liyanage from Sri Lanka Workers Party,Sarath Manamendra from New Sihala Urumaya Party,P.A Peter Nelson from Sri Lanka Progressive Party,M.B Thaminimulla of Okkoma Wasiyo Okkoma Rajawaru Party , Sirithunga Jayasuriya from United Socialist Party and A.Asoka Suraweera from National Development Front.

Around Ten Candidates were announced that they will contesting for the Forthcoming Presidential Elections scheduled to be held in 26th of January 2010 as President Mahinda Rajapaksha and Common Candidate for  the Opposition General Sarath Fonseka become  main contenders.The Official Date for the Handing over of Nominations for the Election is 17th of December 2009.Contestents who are representing Recognized Political Parties need to Deposit  a Sum of Rs.50,000 for the Elections and An Independent Candidate should Deposited a Sum of Rs.75,000.

Opposition Alliance Supported General Fonseka For Presidency Expanded

The Joint Opposition Alliance United National Alliance who supported the Common Candidate for the Forthcoming Presidential Elections General Sarath Fonseka expanded to a 16 Party Alliance from 12 Parties General Secretary of the Alliance Tissa Attanayaka announced today.Another Two Parties joined the Opposition Alliance today including the Muslim Liberation Front he stressed.

The United National Alliance was formed by few weeks ago to support General Fonseka as a Common Candidate for the Presidency.

World AIDS Day Falls To Day


To day(01) is World AIDS Day.Right to getting services is the theme of this years World AIDS Day.
According to the UNAIDS around 33 Million People World Wide are currently living with HIV/AIDS Virus.

In Sri Lanka The Lanka Plus A Organization of  HIV Postives organized a Trade Fair at Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo this Morning to commemorate the World Aids Day.
