Customs Have Taken In To Custody A Stock Of Foreign Made Cigarettes Illegally Sent To A Local Female

Customs Officers have taken in to custody around 225 Cigarette Cartons contains 45,000 foreign made Cigarette sticks among the sea mail goods received to a Provincial Store Complex in Kurunagala yesterday (19).

The stock of Cigarettes made in Dubai was illegally sent to the address in Kantale area of a female who  had worked in Kuwait around 30 years along with other goods it has been revealed.

The estimated value of the Stock Of Cigarettes taken in to custody is around Rs.2.25 million according to Customs.

Australian Mother And Her Daughter Were Killed Due To A Road Accident In Southern Expressway

A 37 year old  Australian Female and her 04 year old daughter were killed and another three including the Husband of the deceased female ,Their son and a driver were injured and Hospitalized after the Van they were traveling colliding with a Lorry parked in a side of the Southern Expressway near the 65 th Kilo Meter post this morning (20).

Out of the  injured The husband and son of the deceased Australian Female were admitted to the Nagoda  Hospital and the Driver of the Van  was admitted to the Elpitiya Base Hospital  for treatment.

The deceased were identified as Collin Louis Monica and her daughter Collin Poppy Gabriel.

A Medical Students Protest Closed The Parliamentary Roundabout

The Parliamentary Road had been temporarily closed from Diyatha Uyana this morning (20) due to a protest campaign launched by the State Medical Faculty students attached to the Medical Faculty Students Action Committee in front of the Parliamentary Roundabout .
Due to this situation a heavy traffic has been reported  from roads around the area as the Motorists are advised to use an alternative routes  it has been reported .

The protest march was held as a protest against the  Amendment act  that was presented to the Parliament today on recruiting SAITM Students to the Sir John Kotalawala Defense University.

A Manager And Female Sex Workers Attached To A Brothel House Maintained On The Pretext Of A SPA Were Arrested

A 26 year old youth Manager and 08 female sex workers have been arrested by a Police Team attached to the Panadura Walana Anti Corruption Unit during a raid carried out in a Brothel House maintained on the pretext of a Ayurveda Massage Center(SPA) at Negambo Road Kandana this morning (20).

The arrested females are of the ages 32-36 years and residents of Kimbulapitiya,Kolambageara,Kotuwagoda,Seeduwa and Nuwara-Eliya areas it has been revealed.

 The raid was carried out as per a search warrant obtained from Wattala Magistrate Court and the arrested females and the male are due to be produced before the court today.

Kandana Police are investigating over the incident.

A Buddhist Monk Was Injured Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

A Buddhist Bhikku(Monk)  was  injured and hospitalized due to a Wild Elephant attack at Wewelketiya in Madawachchiya-Anuradhapura early this morning (20) it has been reported.

The Injured Bhikku was admitted to the Anuradhapura General Hospital for treatment and his condition is not serious according to the reports.He had faced this incident while on the way to the Temple after arriving Wewelketiya from Colombo.
