Police Have Arrested 11 Youths At Weliweriya Area With A Haul Of Heroin In Their Possession
Weliweriya (Western Province) Police have today (10) arrested 11 youths with a haul of heroin worth more than Rs.300,000 in their possession at Weliweriya area in Gampaha District.
The suspects ages between 20-30 are identified as residents in Weliweriya and Colombo.
Police have produced 09 out of the 11 arrested youth before the Gampaha Magistrate Court today and the other 02 suspects are due to be produced before the court.
Weliweriya Police are conducting an investigations on the incident.

Three Banks To Jointly Form A New Housing Bank In Sri Lanka To Offer Housing Loans At Concessionary Rates-Prime Minister
Three Banks will be jointly form a new Housing Bank in Sri Lanka to offer housing loans to the public at concessionary rates according to Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe.
Addressing the 70th anniversary ceremony of the governing United National Party (UNP) held at Campball Park in Colombo this morning Prime Minister has stated that the proposed Housing Bank will ensure the housing needs of people around the country.
Government is planning to full fill the housing needs of North and Eastern Provinces as well as in the Estate Sector like other parts in the country and Ministries of Finance and Housing will build new houses around the country for those who need them Prime Minister has further stated.

Eleven Health Ministers In South East Asia Region Agreed To Set Up A Fund To Building Preparedness For Health Emergencies In The Region
Eleven Health Ministers in South East Asia Region had yesterday (09)agreed to set up a fund to building preparedness for health emergencies in the region which is one of the most disaster prone, during the final day of the Health Ministers Summit.
"The new fund will allow countries in South East Asia Region to invest in infrastructure and human resources that will enhance preparedness "according to Director of WHO's South East Asia Region Dr.Poonam Kethrapal Singh.
In recent years earthquakes ,cyclones and floods have caused health emergencies in the South East Asia Region.The region has also been threatened by a range of emergency diseases including SARS,MERS,cov,pandemic influenza and Zika Virus she has stressed.
Establishing a joint funding stream under the South East Asia Regional Health Emergency Fund(SEAHEF) to help countries better prepare for such events was seen by member countries as a key priority for the regional health agenda at present as funds of SEAHEF are disbursed only once a disaster has occurred Dr.Singh has stated.
