Sri Lanka To Eliminate Rabies And Measles By The Year 2020

Sri Lanka is due to eliminate the communicable  diseases Rabies and Measles by the year  2020 according to the national consultant of World Health Organization (WHO)Dr.Janakan Navarathnasingham .
Addressing the National Media Workshop organized  by the World Health Organization which was held in Colombo recently Dr.Navarathnasingham has stated in the year 2000 around 119 rabies deaths had been reported from the country and in 2015 only 19 rabies deaths had been reported.

The number of measles patients reported during the year is also on the decrease he has stressed.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon Has Stated It Was Difficult For Him To Talk With Previous Government

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon who concluded a three day official visit to Sri Lanka has stated  that it was difficult for him to talk with the previous government then unlike present government and this government is gaining international recognition with the change of power.

The UN Secretary General had visited Galle and Jafgna during his Sti Lankan tour and in Jaffna he met with main opposition politicians and held talks.

Navy Have Arrested Three Local Fishermen For Illegally Harvesting Sea Cucumbers

Sri Lanka Navy Personal have today (02)arrested three local fishermen who were illegally harvesting sea cucumber in the seas of valayanamadam (In Northern Province) the Navy has announced.

Along with the suspects Navy Personal have taken into custody 15 kilo grammes of  Sea Cucumber,two pairs of diving pins ,10 oxygen cylinders, a dinghy (boat) and  a  GPS unit in possession of the suspects.

Navy have handed over the arrested fishermen and equipment to the Mulathivu Police for future investigations.

Another Five Suspects Were Arrested In Connection With The Abduction And Murder Of Bambalapitiya Businessman

Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) officials have today (02) arrested another five suspects in connection with abduction and murder of bambalapitiya based businessman Mohommad Shakeeb Suleiman .

The arrested suspects are in the age group of  25-30 the sources have stated.

CCD Officials have also taken into custody the vehicle which used to  abduct the businessman it has been reported.

CCD has yesterday (01)too arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction and murder of the businessman.
