Supreme Court Issued An Interim Order By Suspending The Increase Of VAT

Image result for court orderThe supreme court has today(11) issued an interim order by suspending the increase of value added tax(VAT).

Supreme Court has issued the order after considering a petition filed by National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansha seeking a court order to revoke the decision on increasing VAT.

The petition has sought a court interim order to prevent relevant authorities from ordering the public to pay VAT and it also argued that parliament approval is must before the VAT is increased.

Government has increased VAT on certain goods and services by 4% with effect from 02nd of May 2016.

Around 29 Passengers Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Bus Accident In Kandy

Image result for accidentAround 29 passengers including 06 school children were injured and hospitalized this morning as the bus they were traveling in veered off the  Kandy-Madulkelle road and crashed into a wall.

 The injured were admitted to the Madulkelle Base Hospital for treatment.
 
 Panvila Police are conducting investigations on the accident.

MP Namal Rajapakshe Has Been Detained By FCID

Image result for financial crimes investigation divisionParliamentarian  and former president Mahinda Rajapakshe's eldest son Namal Rajapakshe has been detained by Police Crimes Financial Investigation Division(FCID) short while ago over a financial irregularity filed against him.

MP Rajapakshe was detained after he has given a statement to FCID regarding the irregularity.He is due to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate this evening.

MP Namal Rajapakshe's uncle former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe too arrived at FCID this morning to give a statement regarding allegation leveled against him.

Health Ministry To Conduct A Special Three Day Dengue Control Programme In Eight Districts

The Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indeginous Medicine has decided to conduct a three day special dengue control programme from 13th to 15th of july in eight districts which are identified as dengue high risk areas in view of taking tough actions against those who are maintaining dengue mosquito breeding places within their premises.

Accordingly this programme will be conducted in colombo,gampaha,kandy,kaluthara,kurunagala,kegalle ,galle,mathara districts .A special forces have been appointed in every medical officers in health (MOH)area to take tough actions against dengue mosquito breeders the health ministry has stated.

During the three day programme health ministry is planning to destroy dengue mosquito breeding places in construction sites and in schools as dengue mosquito density in those places is identified as on the increase.

According to the latest statistics available over 22,000 dengue patients have been reported from the island during this year with 40 deaths.

Police Have Nabbed Five Treasure Hunters In Ethimale

The ethimale police have detained five persons who were excavating a land in a reserved area at
ethimale to secure a treasure it has been reported.

Along with the suspects Police have taken in to custody several equipment and religious items from the site.

The suspects are due to be produced before siyambalanduwa Magistrate Court and ethimale police are conducting an investigations on tne incident.
