Disaster Management Center Issued Landslide Warnings To Seven Districts

Image result for landslides in sri lankaThe Disaster Management Center (DMC)has today(15) issued landslide warnings to seven districts as the current  prevailing heavy showers expected to continue.

Accordingly landslide warnings issued to Badulla,Kurunagala,Monaragala,Kandy,Ratnapura,Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle Districts.

The DMC has also advised the people living in these districts  to be on alert on Mountain areas,Roads and man made cut slopes.

During the 24 hour period from yesterday(14) noon to this noon highest rain falls reported from Colombo and Pothuvil with 128 mili meters and 144 mili meters respectively it has been reported.








With the prevailing weather condition is expected to continue, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has issued landslide warning for seven districts, a statement said today (15).

The landslide warnings have been issued to Kurunegala, Monaragala, Badulla, Ratnapura, Kandy, Kegalle, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

The DMC says that the people living in these districts need to give special attention on all mountain areas, man-made cut slopes, and roads within the area.

Meanwhile, as the prevailing weather is expected to continue, the Defence Ministry has requested public to get emergency assistance from  tri forces.

Heavy downpours have been bearing down for the last few days now. There has been widespread flooding in parts of the country and the next few days look just as unsettled.
Kandy saw 69mm of rain and Galle had 71mm of rain in the 24 hours on Sunday. Meanwhile Colombo recorded 128mm. Pottuuil was even wetter with 144mm in the same period of time.

Five Suspects Detained Over Demolishing Jogging Track In Wattala Released On Bail

Image result for court order clip artFive persons who were detained over demolishing the jogging track in Wattala(In Western Province) were granted bail by Wattala Magistrate Court today(13).

The suspects were detained by the Wattala Police and produced before Wattala Magistrate Court on 03rd of May where they were ordered to remand by the court.

The suspects were already surrendered their passports to the court it has been reported.

The jogging track in Wattala which was constructed by the previous government and used by many  residents of the area for daily exercises had suddenly been  removed by some unidentified individuals recently and it was alleged that the Minister Of Tourism Development and Christian Affairs John Amarathunge was behind the move.

Health Ministry Requested All Alms Giving Center(Dansal) Organizers To Register Their Centers

The Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indeginuous Medicine has requested all Wesak Alms Giving  Center(Dansal) Organizers island wide who are organizing such centers to mark Wesak Poya Day to register their alms giving centers through nearest district health office.

Those who have failed to get registration for their alms giving centers will not be allowed to conduct such centers for forthcoming Wesak according to Ministry Sources.

The Health Ministry has instructed all the provincial health authorities to check alms giving centers organize for Wesak to see whether the food serve there is in good  quality.

Graduate Employees Union Has Conducted A Protest Campaign In Colombo Yesterday(12)

The Graduate Employees Union has  conducted  a protest campaign in front of Colombo Fort Railway Station yesterday(12) noon with the participation of it's members against removing development work belonging  to Graduate Development Officers  attached to  government institutions.

Government has removed the development work of 16,000 Graduate Development Officers and transferred the work to Grama Seva Niladharies (Village Officers) the Graduate Employees Union has accused.

Police have prevented the protesting Graduates from marching towards Presidential Secretariat in Colombo to reveal their grievances to the authorities.
