Speaker Chamal Rajapakshe Has Delayed Announcing The Opposition Leader

The Speaker Chamal Rajapakshe has today(07) informed the Parliament that he is still not decided who will be appointed as the Opposition Leader as there is a dispute regarding that post.He has also told that he is still studying on the issue and will announced  the decision soon.The Speaker was due to be announced his decision on the Opposition Leader post today.

As the number of MP'S representing the United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) have been accepted Ministerial Portfolios of the government recently, several opposition
parties are claiming that  the Opposition Leader Post should be given to their parties by replacing  the current Opposition Leader representing United Peoples Freedom Alliance MP Nimal Siripala De Silva.

Meanwhile a letter said to be signed by over 60 UPFA MP'S requesting to appoint one of their MP'S Dinesh Gunewardene as the Opposition Leader was handed over to the Speaker this morning.

Government's Proposal To Issue Rs.400 Million Treasury Bills Has Been Defeated At The Parliament

In side The Parliament 
The proposal tabled by the Finance Minister Ravi Karaunanayake to issue Rs.400 million worth treasury bills to increase the government revenue has been defeated today(07) at the Parliament with majority of 21 votes.52 MP's have been voted against the proposal while only 31 MP's have voted in favor of it.

The government has expected to increase it's revenue through the issuing of treasury bills and increasing local borrowings as the revenue has  decreased when comparing to the government's expenditure .Due to the recent pay hikes offered to the government workers and price reduction of several essential goods government revenue has been decreased according to the government sources.

As the opposition is stronger in the Parliament than the government the defeating of the said proposal has become a big blow to the government at the time it search the ways to increase revanue.

Doctors Have Issued A Warning To The Public On Illnesses Related To High Temperature

Local Doctors have issued a  warning  today (06) to the Public on  Skin related illnesses like Skin Cancers and Burns which may have occur as there's an unprecedented hot temperatures prevails  during   day time as a result of the Sun  moving directly overhead of Sri Lanka .

The Colombo Chief Medical Officer Dr.Ruwan Wijemuni has said that the  people especially the small children and pregnant mothers should avoid expose  their skin  to the sun rays these days.People should drink more water to avoid possible dehydration as a result of high temperatures and should wear cotton cloths instead of silk and artificial  cloths with long sleeves to avoid exposing the  skin to the sun rays  he has stressed.

The sportsmen and women who are engage in long term sports activities during the day time  should be aware on the situation as they may have suffer from heat stroke which cause due to the high temperatures Dr.Wijemuni has  said.People should also use an umbrella or an Ultra Violet Ray Cut Sun Glasses to avoid eyes getting exposed to the sun rays he has further said.

Bhutanese Prime Minister To Visit Sri Lanka On Thursday

The Prime Minister of Kingdom Of Bhutan Tshering Tobay is due to arrive  Sri Lanka on this Thursday for a three day official visit.During the  visit he  is due to hold talks with Sri Lankan Government Officials .

General Manager Of The State Owned Bank Of Ceylon Was Suspended With Immediate Effect

The General Manger Of State owned ,Bank Of Ceylon D.M Gunasekere has been suspended with immediate effect on charges of misusing power and corruption the Ministry Of Finance has announced today(06).

According to the Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake the suspended General Manager was alleged as involved in an opening of a branch of  Bank Of Ceylon in one of the fastest growing tax heavens in the  world Seychelles Islands in  2011 without a prior permission of  Management of the Bank Of Ceylon.The previous government was behind this opening the minister has stressed.
