Wide Powers Given To The Medical Staff In Sri Lanka To Eradicate Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places

As a Measure to Eradicate Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places in Sri Lanka ,Ministry of Health today gave wide powers to the MOH'S(Medical Officers Of Health) Deputy MOH'S,Medical Officers and Public Health Inspectors(PHI) under the Mosquito Breeding Prevention Act including Powers to Inspect the Breeding Places ,Arresting the Mosquito Breeders and to Fine them.

Health Ministry yesterday issued A Special Circular regarding the transferring of these Powers to the relevant authorities.Dengue Epidemic is in increase throughout the Country and last two days alone(01 and 02nd of June) 547 Dengue Patients were reported.

Now the Total Number of Dengue Patients reported this year up to now stands as 7277 and there are 90 Deaths.Most Number of Dengue Cases are reported from the Colombo District.

Meanwhile the Health Ministry also setup a Hot Line for People to inform those who are having Mosquito Breeding Places in their Households.

Security In Colombo Tightened As Sri Lanka Prepares For The National Victory Celebrations

Security is tightened in Colombo as Sri lanka prepares for the National Victory Celebrations to be held Tomorrow to mark the end of LTTE Terrorism which terrorized the Society for over Thirty Years.The National Celebrations will be held in Galle Face Green of Capital Colombo with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksha and other Distinguished Guests.

Police Arrested Two Web Paper Editors Over Abducting Poddala Jayantha

The Police to day arrested and questioned Two Editors attached to a Sri Lankan Web Paper over the Abducting and Assaulting of the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association Poddala Jayantha.The two Editors including the one who informed the Wife of the Victim about the Abduction were produced before the Courts and later released on Bail.

Poddala Jayantha was Abducted and Assaulted yesterday by an Unidentified Group came from a White Van when he was on his way to home after work.

One Prisoner Was Shot Dead Near Colombo Court When A Group Of Prisoners Tried To Escape

One Prisoner was shot dead and another got injured when a Prison Guard fired at Three Robbery Suspects who tried to escape while escorted out from the Colombo Magistrate Court this morning.Both the killed and injured Prisoners were Suspects of several Robbery cases.

No one in the Street got injured when a Prison Guard shot the escaping Prisoner at the crowded Dam Street.Injured Prisoner was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with Leg Injuries and Prison Guards prevented Escaping of the third Prisoner .

A Trishaw was ready for these Three Prisoners to Escape when they are Escorted from Prison to Courts by a Prison Department Bus.

Sri Lankan Journalist And Activist Hosptalized Following An Assault

A Journalist and the Secretary of the Sri Lankan Working Journalists Association Poddala Jayantha was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital this evening with leg injuries after been Abducted and Assaulted by an unidentified group.He was Dumped on the Road in Colombo Suburbs by a group came from a White Van before been Abducted and Assaulted.After been Assaulted he has been left on the road and admitted to the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital afterwards.

His condition is stable according to the Hospital Sources.The cause of Assaulting Poddala Jayantha is not known.

Poddala Jayantha is a Journalist attached to the State owned Lake House Media Group.

National Victory Celebrations Over Defeating LTTE At Colombo

The National Victory Celebrations over the Defeating of LTTE Terrorism from Sri Lanka is due to be held this Wednesday at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.

All the Arms and Ammunition captured from LTTE during the War against them are displaying at this Occasion according to the Government Sources.The Jordanian Ship Farah seized and used for the Battle by LTTE too displaying Sources further added.
Twenty One Schools in Colombo are closed from To Day up to this Wednesday due to this Function.

Gynecologist Became The Latest Victim Of Dengue Epidemic

A well Recognized Gynecologist Dr.Chandana Pigera died at a Government Hospital in Colombo on last Friday due to the Dengue Fever and became the latest Victim of the Killer Disease which Spreads throughout the Island at present.

He first got admitted to a Private Hospital for treatment and when his condition became Serious transferred to a Government Hospital where he demised.The Majority of the Dengue Patients were reported from Colombo District and along with it 12 Districts of Sri Lanka are identified as the Risky Places of Spreading the Disease.
