Two New Ministers Have Been Appointed For Former Minister Thilak Marapana's Ministerial Portfolio

Two New Ministers have been  sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat this morning as Ministers Of Law And Order and Prison Reforms.

Accordingly Minister Of Southern Development  Sagala Ratnayake has been sworn in as Minister Of Law And Order and Minister Of Rehabilitation And Settlement  D.M Swaminathan sworn in as Minister Of Prison Reforms.

These Two new Ministers have shared the Ministries hold by former Minister of Law and Order and Prison Reforms Thilak Marapana who was resigned from his Ministerial Portfolio over the Avant Garde Issue on Monday .

Government To Publish A Book Containing Late Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero's Biography And His Service

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe has today (11) said Government has  decided to publish  a Book containing  the Biography Of Late most venerable Maduluwae Sobitha Thero  who  passed away last Sunday.The Book will be also containing the details of Venerable Sobitha Thero's  service to the nation.

The Government has planned to publish the book soon and distributing it to all Schools and Libraries in the country from next year.

Meanwhile the Government has today (10) decided to submit a cabinet paper to the Cabinet to conduct Venerable Sobitha Thero's Funeral with full state honors and the Ministry Of Home Affairs is due to bear all costs of the Funeral Government has said.

The Funeral Of Late Sobitha Thro is scheduled to be held at Parliamentary Ground in Colombo on this Thursday(12).

Attorney General's Department To File Applications At Courts Tomorrow(11) To Release 31 Tamil Suspects With Bailable Offences

The Attorney General Department is due to file applications at Courts Tomorrow(11) in view of releasing around 31  suspects arrested under the Prevention Of Terrorism Act according to Commissioner General of Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara.

The suspects due to be released are those with bailable offences the Commissioner General Of Prisons has said.Another 32 suspects under the same category are due to be released later he has stressed.

Over 200 Tamil Prisoners in Several Jails around the Country have commenced  a hunger strike recently  to protest against being in jails for years  without a trial.However after President Maithripala Sirisene has intervened and assured their grievances will be addressed soon the prisoners ended their hunger strike.

By considering the Tamil Prisoners demand ,The President Maithripala Sirisena,Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe and Attorney General have  taken a decision after holding several rounds of discussions to release these prisoners who are being in jails for years without a trial.

Sri Lanka Medical Association To Meet Sri Lanka National Chamber Of Commerce To Discuss How To Avoid Using Small Children When Making Food Advertisements

Sri Lanka Medical Association(SLMA) has decided to discuss with National Chamber Of Commerce regarding how to avoid   using  small children for  the Media Advertisements made by Private Food Companies related to  Food Items.

It has been revealed Media Advertisements related to Fast Food Items made by using small children can affect other children's health in bad way.Due to the advertisements made for food items like  Margarines,Pizzas,Burgers ,Processed Meat like Sausages by using small children ,the consumption of such food items by local  children  have  increased significantly Sri Lanka Medical Association has said.

According to the recently conducted medical survey Obesity and Diabetes among Small Children in the country are on increase and one of the  main causes behind this situation is Fast Food Advertisements made by using small children  to attract the child Population Medical Association has said.

Obesity and Diabetes among Sri Lankan Children are on the increase according to the secretary of Sri Lanka Diabetes Association Dr.Mahen Wijesuriya.

The main causes for this situation are consumption  of non nutritious food ,Lack Of Exercises and Mental Stress Dr.Wijesuriya has said.

"Parents have the responsibility to directing their children to consume nutritious food including cereals ,fresh vegetables and fruits rather than consuming non nutritious fast foods " Dr.Wijesuriya has  stressed.According to him Authorities should have reduce the prices of nutritious food to encourage children and adults to consume more of them.

Dr.Mahen Wijesuriya has revealed these facts during the press briefing held yesterday(09)at Sri Lanka Medical Association(SLMA) Auditorium in Colombo 07.

All Liquor Shops And Meat Stalls In The Country To Be Closed On This Thursday(12) In View Of The Funeral Of Late Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero

Image result for liquor shops closedThe Government has decided to close all Liquor Shops and Meat Stalls in the Country on this Thursday (12) in view of National Day Of Mourning declared for the funeral of Late Most Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero Who has passed away at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

The funeral of late Sobitha Thero is due to be taken place at Parliamentary Grounds in Colombo this Thursday with full state honors according to Government.The Body of late thero was brought to Sri Lanka from Singapore yesterday night and now it's kept at the Naga Viharaya(Temple) In Kotte for Public Veneration.

Meanwhile in view of the Funeral of Late Sobitha Thero all Cinema Halls in Colombo and Schools in  Sri Jaywardenapura ,Kotte except Grade 10 and 11 will be closed on this Thursday government has announced.

Due To The Higher Consumption Of Trans Fat Contained Food Items, Cholesterol Among Sri Lankans Is On The Increase

Due to the Higher Consumption of Food Items containing Trans Fats ,Sri Lankans  who have high content of Cholesterol in their Blood Stream are on the increase according to the Local Nutritionists.

Food Items like Biscuits,Fried Foods,Baked Foods and most of the fast foods are containing with Trans Fats produced from Vegetable Fats Nutritionist Dr.Ranil Jayawardene has said today(09).

To avoid getting Cholesterol which can lead to non communicable diseases like Coronary Heart Diseases and Stroke people should  refrained from consuming food items containing Trans Fats he has stressed.

The Local Nutritionists have also appealed to  the government to consider the  ban of  using  Trans Fats for Food Items as most of the western countries had already completely banned the Trans Fats.

Director General Of Health Services To Blacklist The Construction Companies Which Are Not Able To Complete Development Projects In Northern Provincial Government Hospitals In Given Time

The Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala has instructed the Health Authorities to Blacklist the Construction Companies which are not able to complete the construction work of Development Projects in Northern Provincial Government Hospitals by end of this December.

As some Construction Companies are delaying the construction work of these development projects in Northern Provincial Government Hospitals ,Director General Of Health Services has decided to Blacklist the Companies which are  not able to  complete the work in given time.

Dr.Mahipala has also instructed the authorities to pay the contract fees for the companies which have already completed their projects in Hospitals,

Minister Of Law And Order Thilak Marapana Has Resigned From His Ministerial Portfolio

Image result for tilak marapanaThe Minister of Law And Order Thilak Marapana has resigned from his Ministerial Portfolio this morning due to the allegations over   statements he made at the Parliament recently in favor of  controversial Avant Garde Floating Armory Issue.

Former Minister has tender his resignation as Minister Of Law And Order to the President Maithripala Sirisena this morning  by saying as there is an on going investigation over the Avant Garde Floating Armory he will resign from his Ministerial Portfolio to pave the way for an impartial inquiry on the issue.

MP Marapana who was also the former legal adviser of Avant Garde ,was heavily criticized by several Cabinet Ministers and Civil Society Leaders after he made a statement regarding Avant Garde Floating Armory by stating Police have tried to gain points from present government through making false allegations against Avant Garde Security Services Private Limited which run the Floating Armory.

Several Cabinet Ministers and Civil Society Leaders have also complained to the President Maithripala Sirisena on Controversial Behavior of Former Minister Marapana.

Obesity among Sri Lankans has been increased from three folds during the last two decades according to a new medical survey the Sri Lanka Medical Association(SLMA) has said.

Due to the Higher Consumption  of Fat,Suger,and Flour the Obesity among Sri Lankans is on the increase the Medical Association has revealed, According to the results of the said medical survey around 15% Children live in Urban Areas and 25% of the population live in Rural Areas of the country are suffering from Obesity which leads several non communicable diseases like Diabetes,High Blood Pressure,Cholesterol and Heart Diseases .

Some of the Misleading Food Advertisements telecast and broadcast through the local electronic media too made a huge impact of spreading Obesity among children and youth in the country SLMA has said.

Around 126 Indian Fishermen in Sri Lankan Custody will be released tomorrow(09) in view of Hindu Festival "Deepavali" which falls on this Tuesday(10) according to Minister Of Fisheries Mahinda Amaraweera.

Indian Government too due to release around 36 Sri Lankan Fishermen tomorrow  who are in their custody the Minister has said.

Both Sri Lankan and Indian Authorities have arrested these fishermen while fishing in each others territories.

A Large Scale fraud has been committed when supplying fuel to Vessels called at the Port Of Hambanthota(In Southern Province) During previous government according to Minister Of Ports And Shipping Arjuna Ranathunge.

Due to this large scale fraud the Government has lost a sum of more than US Dollars 19 Million the Minister has said.

An Investigation is already underway to identified the culprits behind this fraud the Minister Ranathinge has further added.
