Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero Has Been Flown To Mount Elizabeth Hospital In Singapore For Further Checkups

One of the popular Buddhist Monks in Sri Lanka and the  Chief Incumbent Of Naga Viharaya(Temple) in Kotte(In Colombo District) Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero has been flown to Mount Elizabeth Hospital In Singapore last night for further medical treatment regarding a Heart Problem .

The Venerable Sobitha Thero has underwent  a Bypass Surgery at Colombo National Hospital recently and was received treatment at National Hospital up to yesterday.He has flown to Singapore for further medical tests per the instructions of National Hospital Doctors it has been reported.

A Cabinet Proposal To Increase The Age Limit Of Recruiting Workers To The Government Sector

A Cabinet Proposal  to increase the age limit for  recruiting  Workers to Government Sector from 10 years will be forwarded to the Cabinet soon according to Minister Of Health ,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

According to the Minister after getting  Cabinet Approval for the said proposal the 30-35 year current age limit of recruiting workers to the government sector will be increased to 45 years of age.Due to the current age limit most qualified people above that age limit have not been able to recruit for the government sector the Minister has stressed.

Seventeen Year Old School Student Arrested Over Five Year Old Girl's Rape And Murder On Suspicion Has Filed A Fundamental Rights Petition By Demanding A Compensation

The 17 year old School Student who was arrested by Kotadeniyawa Police on suspicion over the rape and murder of five year old Seya Sadewmini and released later ,has filed a Fundamental Rights Petition at  Supreme Court by demanding Rs.10 Million Compensation from those who were responsible for his arrest which  he accused as an act of tarnishing  his character.
.
Through this Petition the student has named The Inspector General Of Police(IGP),OIC Of Kotadeniyawa Police and Attorney General as respondents of his unwanted arrest .

While in Police Custody Police Officers had severely harassed him according to the Petitioner Student.




Police Have Arrested Political Committee Member Of Front Line Socialists Party Premakumar Gunratnam

The Political Committee Member of the Front line Socialist Party Premakumar Gunaratnam has been arrested today(04) by the Police in Kegalle(In Central Province) District for overstaying his Visa in Sri Lanka.

Gunaratnam who is an Australian Citizen is scheduled to be deported to Australia according to the Immigration Emigration Department.He had arrived Sri Lanka from Australia on 01st of January this year prior to Presidential Election on a 30 day Tourist Visa which was expired on 31st  of January.

Meanwhile the Kegalle Magistrate Court has ordered to remand Gunaratnam until 18th of November after he was produced before the court.

Premakumar Gunaratnam was a former member of leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) and also one of the  founder members of Front line Socialists Party.

Twenty One Sri Lankan AIDS Patients have died during the first nine months(January To September) of this year according to the latest report issued by National STD(Sexually Transmitted Diseases)/AIDS Control Campaign .

Nine of these AIDS Death have been reported during January to March this year,Three Deaths in April To June and Nine Deaths have been reported during July To September the report has stated.

The Male to Female Ratio of infecting the HIV/AIDS Virus is 1.7:1.According to the Director of National STD/AIDS Control Programme Dr.Sisira Liyanage more and more HIV/AIDS Positives have been reported throughout the Island due to the increased number of HIV Tests .

Three Army Personal have been electrocuted to death and five other persons got injured after a high tension power line fell on their van this afternoon while they were travelling in Galle-Ginthota Road(In Southern Province) according to the Police.

The Van was caught fire soon after the power line fell on the vehicle Police have revealed.five persons who got  injured due to the accident including the Van Driver were admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Discussion Between Protesting University Students And Deputy Education Minister Concluded

A discussion was held this evening between the of group protesting University Students Belonging to Inter University Students Confederation and deputy Education Minister Mohan Lal Grero  and the discussion has ended without any permanent solution for students demands according to Inter University Students Confederation.

During the discussion Deputy Education Minister Mohan Lal Grero has promised the Students that annual intake of Students to the Government Universities will increase by 10% , Mahapola Scholarship Fees offer to University Students belonging to  low income families will be increased to Rs.4000 and the Degree Status will be given to HNDA Diploma Programme.However Deputy Minister has not promised anything regarding abolishing Malabe Private Medical Collage as a decision regarding that should be taken by the government itself the Deputy Minister Grero has said.

University Students Belonging To Inter University Students Confederation Have Conducted A Protest March Towards University Grants Commission Causing Heavy Traffic On The Roads

Around 100 University Students including Buddhist Monks belonging to Inter University Students Confederation have began a protest march in front of Sri Jayawardenapura University this evening and marched towards University Grants Commission Building at Ward Place Colombo by demanding to solve several  demands of University Students .This protest march of University Students have caused  heavy traffic congestion in many roads of the  Colombo City.

Both commuters and pedestrians have faced immersed  difficulties due to heavy traffic occurred on the roads this evening  which lasted several hours due to the  Protest March it has been reported.

However although a large number of Police Officers have been deployed in the route where the protest march held  the march has been held peacefully without any violent incident  like what happened during HNDA Students Protest March held in Ward Place few days back.

The University Students belonging to Inter University Students Confederation have launched this protest march today by demanding several  University Students Demands including increasing Mahapola Scholarship Fees up to Rs.5000,Increase the annual intake of Students to Government Universities ,Abolishing the Malabe Private Medical College and offer Degree Status to  HNDA Diploma Programme .
