Special Commodity Levy Imposed On Imported Edible Oil Has Been Increased From Today

edible oil க்கான பட முடிவுThe special commodity levy imposed on imported edible oil has been increased by Rs.20 per Kilo Gramme with effect from today(23) according to the Ministry Of Finance.

Providing relief to local Coconut Industry has  behind this decision the Ministry has said.With the new increase  the special commodity levy imposed on Crude Edible Oil increased to Rs.110 from Rs.90 per Kilo Gramme and levy imposed on Refined Oil increased to  Rs.130 from Rs.110 per Kilo Gramme.

Dementia Is On The Increase Amongs t Sri Lankan Women Over 60 Years Of Age-Dr.Kapila Ranasinghe

"Dementia " a disease caused due to destroying  neuro cells in the brain is  on the increase among st Sri Lankan Elderly Women over the age of 60 years according to the Consultant Psychiatrist attach to National Mental Institute Dr.Kapila Ranasinghe.

Although both males and females over the age of 60 years are usually prone to Dementia ,the disease is high among st Sri Lankan Women belonging to the above age group due to hormone problems Dr.Ranasinghe has said.

Addressing a Media Seminar held at Health Education Bureau in Colombo today(23) Dt.Kapila Ranasinghe has stressed that around 5 % to 6% out of the total Sri Lankan Population estimated as suffering from Dementia according to a latest survey.

The main symptoms of Dementia Disease are Loss of the Memory(Forgetting the daily activities regularly ,if someone lost his/her belongings they suspect someone might have stolen those,),Changes in daily routine ,Behavioral Changes including screaming,sleeping disorder known as Insomnia ,Living in isolation ,Restlessness ,Believing in Myths ,Dr.Ranasinghe has revealed.

Dementia is seen among st Sri Lankan males and females below 60 years of age as well he has stressed. "If someone is having the symptoms given above he/she should be directed to medical treatment with immediate effect to avoid getting  patient become paralyzed or totally out of
control " Dr.Ranasinghe said.

Officers Of Presidential Commission Of Inquiry Have Visited Former President To Record A Statement

The Presidential Commission Of Inquiry has recorded a statement from fromer president Mahinda Rajapaksha this morning regarding Rs.200 Million loss reported from a State Media Institution due to broadcast advertisements of former president rjapaksha without payments and not broadcasting President Maithripala Sirisena's paid advertisements during the Presidential Election period .

Although the former president was informed to be present at Presidential Commission Of Inquiry today to record the statement ,the commission officers have visited former president at his residance in Mirihana (In Colombo) to get  the statement.

The Commision has investigating a case received regarding the Rs.200 Million Loss  incurred by a state media institution due to  broadcasting former president's non paid advertisments while rejecting to broadcast president sisrisena's paid advertisements during the election.

Germany To Pressurize European Union To Revive GSP+ Facility To Sri Lanka-German Foreign Minister

The visiting German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier has stated yesterday(22) he will personally taking action to pressurize the European Union to revive GSP+ facilty for Sri Lankan Garment Sector.

During his meeting with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (22)at the Presidential Secretariet the German Foreign Minister has said he will coordinate through the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry on  pressurizing  european union on GSP+ issue.

At the meeting President Sirsisena had commanded the corporation extended by Germany to Sri Lanka for long time and requested German Assistance to develop technical skills in Sri Lankan Health Sector.The President has also accepted the invitation sent by German Chancellor Angela Merkal through German Foreign Minister to Visit Germany,

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksha Wants Government To Refuse The UN Human Rights Council Report On Sri Lanka

The former president Mahinda Rajapakshe has requested the  Sri Lankan Government to refuse the United Nations Human Rights Council Report against alleged war crimes said to be occurred in Sri Lanka which issued last week as the findings in that report are baseless and biased.

In a statement released by the former president it has stated as the inquiry on alleged war crimes against Sri Lanka which said to be occurred during the last phase of war against LTTE Militants has been carried out by Human Rights Council itself instead of an Independent Body the findings are biased and baseless .

"During my government we didn't support the inquiry carried out by UN Human Rights Council  on alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka as it has done by violating the procedures of Human Rights Council "Former President has said.

Special Commodity Levy Imposed On Imported Big Anions Has Been Increased From Today

The Special Commodity Levy imposed on imported Big Anions(Bombay Anions) has been increased from Rs.10 to 30 per Kilo Gramme with effect from today(22) according to the Ministry Of Finance.

However this will not effect the market price of Big Anions the Ministry has said.

Reaching of local anion crops to the market was behind the decision on increasing the Special Commodity Levy imposed on Big Anions.

Parliament Has Approved The Three Civil Members Nominated For Constitutional Council

The Parliament has today(22) approved the three representatives nominated for representing Civil Society in the Constitutuional Council.The three approved representatives are Dr.Radhika Kumaraswamy,Dr.A.T Ariyaratne and Shibly Aziz.

The other members appointed to the Constitutional Councill are Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe,Opposition Leader R.Samapanthan , Speaker Karu Jayasuriya,Ministers  Wijedasa Rajapakshe,Vijitha Hearth and Patali Champika Ranawake and W.D.J Seneviratne.

The constitutional Council is due to etablish nine independant commisions and monitoring  their affairs.

Puttalam Hospital Nursing Staff To Launch Four Hour Strike Tomorrow(22)

The nursing staff attach to the Puttalam General Hospital(In North Western Province) are due to launch a four hour strike from 8 a.m to 12 noon tomorrow(22) by demanding to release all the nurses in hospital who are under transfer orders with immediate effect according to the All Ceylon Nurses Union.

The president of the All Ceylon Nurses Union,Gamini Kumarasinghe has said around 35 Nurses attached to the Puttalam Hospital are on transfer orders since more than six years and the hospital authorities so far released only 10 nurses out of them due to the shortage of new nursing recruitment's.

The chairman of the Sri Lankan Commission On Missing Persons and War Crimes Justice Maxwell Paranagama has said today(21) the death toll of the final phase of Sri Lankan war against LTTE Militants was around 7700 and not 40,000 as mentioned by United Nations Human Rights Report of 2011 which released last week.

Justice Parangama has told the Indian Media, the members of Sri Lankan Commission On Missing Persons And War Crimes have personally visited the houses situated in war torn areas and collected this information.

The Report of Sri Lankan Commission On Missing Persons And War Crimes has not been considered When preparing the  UN Human Rights Commission Report Justice Paranagama has stressed.

Prisons Department To Recruit Intelligence Officials For Courts In Colombo District

The Prisons Department has decided to recruit intelligence officials for every court in Colombo District with immediate effect.

To minimize the illegal activities occurred at  court complexes in Colombo City has prompted  this decision according to Commissioner General Of Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara.

Under this programme four intelligence officials were recruited for the Hulftsdorf Court Complex with effect from  today(22) and  intelligence officials are due to be recruited for the courts in Colombo Fort,Mariakanda,Nugegoda and Mount Lavinia  by tomorrow(22)the Prisons Commissioner General has said.

Parliament Due To Be Summoned Tomorrow(22)- Ten Independent Commissions To Be Appointed During This Week

The Parliament is due to be summoned tomorrow(22) .Ten Independent Commissions are due to be appointed during this week's Parliamentary Sessions it has been reported.

One of the main items in  Agenda of tomorrow's Parliamentary Sessions will be getting approval for the three civil representatives nominated for  proposed constitutional council.

Dr.Radhika  Kumaraswamy,Dr.A.T Ariyaratne and Shibly Aziz have been nominated as  civil representatives for the constitutional council.After getting parliamentary approval for  three nominees the ten member constitutional council is due to be convened it's first meeting tomorrow evening at  parliamentary complex.

At the meeting of  constitutional council a final decision  will be taken regarding the appointment  of ten commissions according to  parliamentary sources.

Two Suspects Of The Five Year Old Girl's Murder Have Been Produced Before The Negambo JMO

The two suspects who were remanded after the questioning over the murder of five year old girl "Seya Sadewmini " of Kotadeniyawa Area have been produced before the Judicial Medical Officer(JMO) attach to the Negambo District Hospital today(21) for investigations according to the Police.

The two suspects including a 17 year old Marijuana Addicted School Boy who is a neighbor of the deceased girl were arrested last Saturday for questioning over the girl who was sexually molested and strangled to death near her residence.After the questioning two suspects were remanded until 28th of September.

The suspects are due to be produced before the Negambo Magistrate Court on 28th of September .

Meanwhile the samples taken from the body of the deceased girl have already sent  for a DNA Test and through the test results culprits are expected to be  identified Police have said. .

The investigations regarding the murder are carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department(CID).
