Chairman Of The Mawbima Janatha Party Tendered His Resignation

 The Chairman of the "Mawbima Janatha Party" DrSarath Amunugama has  tendered  his resignation  from his post.Dr.Amunugama has formally informed his decision to the Party  leader Dilith Jayaweera it has been reported.


However Dr .Amunugama has not given a specific  reason for his resignation.Mawbima Janatha Party has recently signed a Policy Agreement with several Political Parties in Colombo to launch a new political Movement "Sarvajana Balaya".


 

A Female Estate Worker Has Died Due To A Tree

 A 46 year old female Estste worker has died and two other estate workera were injured and hospitalized after a huge tree had fallen on them whilst putting fertilizer to tea cultivation at Opatha estate sector in Kahawatte area today (28).The tree had fallen as a result of  a strong wind it has been reported.

The deceased was identified as 46 year old Thamil chelvi.

59 Trees Fell In Colombo Municipal Council Area

Around 59 Tree falling incidents have been reported  within Colombo Municipal Council limits due to the Heavy rains and windy Weather conditions prevailing in Colombo at present.According to the CMC out of these incidents 19  were reported  from Viharamahadevi Park  .


The Authorities have already removed 100 out of 200 trees in the Viharamadevi park identified as risk of faling.

Four Trains Of Upcountry Railway Line Had Been Cancelled

 Four Trains belongs to the Upcountry Railway  Line had been cancelled yesterday(25) due to trees fallen in several areas between  Nawalapitiya to Badulla in Upcountry Railway line.


Accordingly Two night mail trains from Colombo to Badulla and Badulla to Colombo Fort  and  Colombo-Badulla sn Badulla-Colombo Fort Special trains  had been cancelled as a reult of fallen trees the Sri Lanka Railways Department has announced.



A Person Died Due To An Electrocution At Kebithigollawa

 A 50 yeae old person has died due to an Electroction whilst attempting to supply Electricity fot Vesak Lanterns at a Temple in  Kabithigollawa  area yesterday(25) according to the Kabithigollawa Police.The deceased had pronounced as deas after admission to Kebithigollawa Hospital for treatment.


The deceased was a resident of Maradanmaduwa area in Kapugollawa .

Presidential Election Will Be Held On 17th Of October -Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe

The Presidential Election is scheduled to be held on 17th of October this year  according to the Minister Of Justice Wijedasa Rajapakshe.


Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe has,also statrd that The Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) undee his chairmanship will act as a strong decisive party in the Presidential Election .He has made these remarks at a Meeting of a Kandurata Janatha Peramuna Party held in Hatton under the patronsge of him



 

A Female was Killed And Two Others Were Injured Due ToA Fallen Tree

 A female was killed  and two othets wete ctitically injured and hospitalized  after a tree had fallen to their house near the Haputale District Hospital last night(25).The injured  were admitted to the Haputale District Hospital and later transferred to Diyathalawa Base Hospiral for treatment.


The tree had fallen due to adverse weather prevailing in the island at present.Haputale Police are conducting an investigations over the incident.

Three Youth Died After Colliding With A Train

 Three youth have died after the Motorcycle they were travelling in colliding with a Train at the Railway crossing in Pinthaliya,Ginthota area(Galle) yesterday (23).


The deceased were residents of Thelikada Police Division in  Galle district and they had collided with the train travelling from Maradana to Matara area  whilst on their way to an alms giving center (Dansala) in the area according to the Galle Police).

More Than 300,000 Electricity Consumber Faced Power Breakdownss

 More than 300,000 Electricity Consumers in the island have reported over 36,900 power breakdowns resulting power interruptions during last three days  due to adverse weather.




According to the Minister Of Power and Energy an additional Service staff has been assigned to attend the breakdowns  and they are working  24 hours to restore power to the  affected consumers.

A Motorcyclist Was Killed After Colliding With A Tree

 A Motorcyclist  was killed after colliding  with a cotton tree which fell as a result of the heavy showers and strong winds this morning (23) according to the Hanwella,Police.


The deceased who is a resident of  Wagairidapola area in Hanwella  had faced this incident when he is on the way to collect fuel for the electric generator attached to a Wesak alms giving center (Dansala)  in the area the Police have stated.

A Small Lorry Toppled Over To A,Precipice

A small Lorry travelled  under a severe fog  had veered  off the road and toppled over to a precipice  over 1000 feet deep at Blackwood area between haputale-Beragala area on  Colombo-Badulla main road yestwrdat (22) according to the Haputale Police..


A lorry transported cement blocks from Haputale to Balangoda had met with this accident according to reports.The lorry was veered off the road when attempting to allow another vehicle to pass over the Police have stated

Flood Warnings Issued For Residents Living Near Major Rivers

 Due to the heavy showers pevailing in The department of Irrigation has issued flood warnings for the residents living near Attanagalu Oya ,Kalu,Kelani,Gin and Benthara Rivers and Ma Oya(River) .

Met Department Requested Fishing Community To Avoid Going To Sea Areas Due To Heavy Showers /Winds

 The Department  Of Meteorology has issued an advisory to the Naval and fishing communities  requesting  them to avoid going to  sea areas  until further notice due to the strong winds accomopanied by  heavy showers prevailing in these days.


Strong winds along with heavy showers are being experienced over the sea areas  around South western sea of Bay of Bengal and South Eastern Arabian sea areas according to the Met Department.As a result Heavy showers of more than 150.mili meters  will be experienced in Western  and North Western provinces the Department has stated

 All the schools in Puttalam District are being  closed today (20)due to the adverse weathee conditions prevailing in the district at present the Governor of the North Western Province has  announced.

 India have decided to extend the ban imposed on LTTE for   another five years the Ministry of Internal affairs in India has announced yesterday (14).  

This decision to extend


the LTTE Ban has been taken  as LTTE Supporters are trying to increase the support base of the organization by spreading extremist ideas the Ministry has anmounced.


NBRO Issued Landslide Warnings To Four Districts

 The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) had yesterday (14)  issued landslide warnings  to 17 Provincial Secretariet divisions of fout districts as a result of the heavy showers prevailing in those areas at present.


Accordingly  Landslide warnings had been issued to 17 Provincial Secretariet Divisions belongs to Badulla,Kandy ,Kegalle and Ratnapura Districts   until  5  pm  this evening(15) the NBRO has stated.

The Tution teacher who was alleged as photographing the English Language  question paper of the 2024/24 G.C.E ordinary level  examination paper and sharing it via whatsapp during the exam has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department(CID).


The CID Officers have arrested  the teacher at Kandy  this morning(12) it has been reported.According to the preliminary investigations held regarding the sharing of this examination paper the relevant Whatsaapp group consists of 1025 members .

Nine Persons Were Injured Due To A Bus Accident

 Nine  persons were injured and hospitaliZed after  a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Bus travelling from Hanguranketha area to Kamdy veering off the road amd toppled over yestetday(11).The injured were admitted to the Kandy Teaching  and Rilillagaskada Hospitals  for treatment .


The driver and the Bus Conductor are also among the injured and the Thalathuoya Police are conducting an investigation over the incident.

Former CEO Of Drug Authority Remanded Until 20th Of May

 The  Former Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority(NMRA) Dr.Vijith Gunasekare who was arrested by the Criminal Investigatons Department( CID)  few days back  over the purchasing of substandard medicines has been remanded until 20 th of May by the Maligakanda Magistrate Court yesterday(09)


He was arrested by the CID Officers after recording a 10 hour long statement over the purchasing of substandard drugs and produced before Maligakamda Magistrate court yesterday.

Former MP Mujibur Rahman To Fill Vacated Parliament Seat Of Diana Gamage

 The former MP attached to the Samagi Janabalawegaya (SJB) Party in Colombo  District Mujibur Rahaman is due to be  sworn in as the new MP of Parliament for  the seat  vacated by the Forner State Minister Diana gamage .The former State Minister Gamage's  parliament Seat was quashed as a result of the Court order issued by the Supreme Court last Wednesday (08) stating she has disqualified to hold a Parliament seat as she is not a Sri Lankan citizen.


The Election Commission has issued the Gazette Notification  regarding the naming of former MP Mujibur Rahaman to fill the parliament seat vacated by former State Minister Diana Gamge.

Investigation Launched Regarding Circulation Of G.C.E O/Lvel Examnation

The Department of Examinations has launched an investigation regarding the circulation of the English Language  question paper of the ogoing GCE Ordinary Level Examination which was held yesterday(09) via WhatsApp.The English Paper was Circulated via WhatsApp for students to copy answers during the exam  the Commissioner General Of Examinations  Amith Jayasundare has stated.

Former Minister's ,Son Nauzer Fowzie Arrested Over An Assault

 The Former Provincial Councillot Nauzer Fowzie who is the son of Former Minister A,H,M Fowzie was arrested by the Colpetty Police yesterday (07)  over allegedly assaulting a person following an accident involving his vehicle.

STF Rescued Two Children Kept As Hostages By Their Father

 The Special Police Task Force personal had managed to  rescue  two children held as hostages by their own father due to a personal disoute arisen between parents of the children at Government Employees,Housing scheme in Hanwella(Colombo) last morning (05) after a nine hout long mission .

A 17 year old Person Was stabbed to death with a sharp weapon as a result of  an arguement arisen  during  an outdoor Musical show  held in Panadura area (Colombo) last Morning (05) according to the Police..


The  deceased was identified as a resident of  paraththa area in Panadura  and the Panadura North Police had arrested the person allegdly carried out the attack .Panadura  North Crimes unit is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.

A Section Of An Expresshighway Collapsed

A Section.Of the Mirigama - Kadawatha Express Highway that is being under construction.has  collapsed it has been reported.


According to the Road Development  Authority  A  35 meter long concrete beem of the Expresshighway had collapsed.

 A section of the Mirigama-Kadawatha Expressway, that had been partially constructed, has collapsed. It has been reported.Another two beems of the bridge are at risk.of collapsing according to.the reports.


A Person Was Injured Due To A Gun Shooting Incident

 A 33 Year person was injured and hospitalized due to a gun shooting incident at Albert Pieris Road in Horana today (05).The injured was admitted  to the Horana Base Hospital for treatment.
