Colombo High Court Tribunal Had Sentenced Former Prisons Commissioner To Death Over Killing Of Prison Inmates

 Colombo High Court Tribunal had today (12) sentenced the former Prison Commissioner General Emil Ranjan Lamahewa  to death over the killing of 08 Prison  inmates during the unrest occurred at Welikada Prison on 09th of November 2012 .


However the Tribunal Judge panel  had ordered to  free the former Police Inspector attached to Police Anti Narcotic Bureau Neomal Rangajeewa who is the first accused of the prison killings from all the charges leveled against him .

Around 21 prison inmates attached to Welikada Prison were killed during the unrest occurred among prison inmates in 2012 when a group of Special Police Task Force (STF) Personal had arrived in prison premises for a search operation . Commander of the Special Police task force then along with few other officers also were  injured due to the incident ,
