Former Parliamentarian Dunimda Silva who has been accused over the killing of another former Parliamentarian Buaratha Lakshman Premachandre and four others and sentenced to death by the court ,had been granted Presidential pardon today /(24) to mark the Poson poya day according to Prison authorities.
the Former MP Silva and four other were sentenced to death by the Court of Appeal on 08th of September 2016 and the decision was later re confirmed by the Supreme Court .
Silva along with 04 others were sentenced to death by the Court of Appeal after the charges filed against them were proved at the court .
Many in the society had condemned the release of former MP. who was charged over killing of another MP as it will provide a bad example to others who are already sentenced to death according to reports .
President Gotabaya Rajapakshe had today pardoned 93 prison inmates including Duminda Silva behalf of Poson poya day which falls today .Among those who had been released under the Presidents pardon today were 16 persons suspected as LTTE Cadres the Department Of Prisons had announced ,Silva is the only one in the list of Prisoners who was under death sentence to received presidents pardon .
