(04)dismissed the petition filed by former Galle Mayor of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Methsiri De Silva seeking to invalidate the Gazette notification issued by the Election Commissioner that the presidential election should be held on 16th of November.
The petition argues that the current president 's term is six years and holding the presidential Election before ending his term would be affected the soverignty of the people .
Petition has named president of National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya and Commission members as respondents of the case .
However through the 19 th amendmemt to the constitution present government had reduced the term of Executive president to five years from six years .Current President Maithripala Sirisena has been elected to office in January 2015.
