Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army Major General Shavendra Silva has been appointed as the 23rd Army Commander of the Sri Lanka Army by President Maithipala Sirisena yesterday (19).
He succeeds outgoing Army Commander Lineament General Mahesh Senanayake who had completed his service extension on last Sunday (18) after working as the Commander for more than two years.
The New Army Commander Silva who had been promoted as Lieutenant General after appointing as Army Commander , had received his appointment letter yesterday from President at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo .
He had a 35 year old Army career since joining the Army in 1984 .He is an old boy of Saint Thomas Collage Mount Lavinia and received his Military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy .
