Both Governors had tendered their resignation letters to the president Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariet in Colombo.They have resigned due to the growing pressure in the society demanding them to resign from their posts over supporting extremism.
Both Governors held talks with President Sirisena last night and this morning regarding growing demands to remove them from posts however in both occasions president did not request the two Governors to resign it has been reported .
Firmer Eastern province governor Hisbulla had stated in his resignation letter that he has resigned from the post to ensure the security of Muslim Community and to Strengthen President 's Hands .
MP Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero Had begun a fasting campaign at Mahamaluwa in Sri Dalada Maligawa last friday demanding the removal of two Governors and MinisterRishad Baduideen .
