The free Annual Postal Services
allowance provided to Parliamentarians and Provincial Councilors had been doubled through an extra ordinary Gazette Notification issued by Postal services and Muslim religious Affairs M.H.A Hakeem.
Accordingly the Annual Postal services allowance of Parliamentarians had been increased from Rs.175,000 to Rs.350,000 and the allowance of Provincial Councilars had been increased from Rs.24,000 to Rs.48,000.
The newly increased allowance will be provided with effect from 16th of January 2018 and Cabinet has also approved the increased allowance has been revealed
However Leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna (JVP)has criticised the move by saying it is hard to believe that postal allowance of MP"s need to increase by such an amount as due to the new technology adapted by the Postal services the amount need to spend for that has been decreased .
JVP Has also stressed the need to look in to whether the MP's are utilising the Postal allowance provided to them annually correctly.
