- KilinochchI Police have arrested a person today (01)at Wattakachchiya area in KilinochchI (Northern Province )over the killing of two police Constables near the Vavnathivu police post in Batticaloa last morning (30).
The 48 year old suspect had been handed over to the group of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers arrived in Batticaloa yesterday ftom Colombo for further investigations over the killings .
It is believed that someone shot and killed the two Police Constables who were 28 and 35 years old as a revenge against removing decorations made in Pandiadi Cemetery recently to commemorate LTTE Members by the Police.
The gunmen who had shot and killed two Police Constables fled away by steeling firearms belonging to.them.The deceased Police Constables had been shot at their heads it has been revealed during their post mortem held in Batticaloa Hospital .
Meanwhile Police Department has promoted two Police Constables who were killed in Batticaloa to the rank of Police Sargent.
