A Baby Tusker around 10-12
years old had been shot and killed by someone last evening (30) near Udawalawa Reservoir it has been reported.
The body of the Baby Tusker had been recovered this morning (01) and during the post mortem conducted today it has been revealed the Tusker was shot and killed by using a Gun and he has received four gun shot wounds to his body including to his head area .
According to villagers they have seen the Baby Tusker who had separated from his Herd since sometime back had came out from the Elephant fence in Udawalawa reserve and walking towards fifth post village. Although the villagers had informed on this to the Wild Life officers in Udawalawa they didn't take any action regarding it villagers said .
After the post mortem the body of the Baby Tusker had been buried today .
Wild Life officers along with officers attached to Udawalawa reserve have launched an investigation over the incident. Police have also launched an investigation to arrest the shooters who killed the Tusker.
