MP Ananda Kumarasiri attached to the
Govverning United National Party(UNP) has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker of the Parliament today(05) with 97 votes .
MP attached to the United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA)Dr.Sudarshani Fernandopulle who had contested with MP kumarasiti had received 53 votes during a secret ballot held to appoint the Deputy Speaker.
Leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) and Tamil National Alliance(TNA) have refrained from.voting and Some MP's in the Government and Joint Opposition too not participated the vote it has been reported.
The Deputy Speaker's post became vacant after UPFA MP Thilanga Sumathipala had left the national government with another 15 MP's after voting in favor of the no confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe.
