The Treasury Has issued Rs.5 Million to the Ministry Of Agriculture to purchase the unsold harvest of Pumpkins of the farmers in many areas and issued it to the Market.
The Treasury has issued the funds to the Ministry as per a request made by the new Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to prevent Pumpkin Farmers of becomes bankrupt it has been announced.
However one of the largest food chains in the country Cargills Private Limited had recently purchase a large stock of Pumpkin harvest to be sold through the Cargills Food Cities throughout the island and help the Pumpkin farmers to earn money from their harvest .Cargills Food Cities are currently involved in a special project of selling the purchased Pumpkin harvest of local farmers and under it every customer who have purchased goods worth more than Rs.750 from Cargills Food Cities will be provided 500 Grammes of Pumpkin free of charge it has been reported.
