Amaraweera has instructed the authorities to stop importing of canned fish and other fish varieties other than "Thalapath"and "Coppara" temporarily due to the increased fish harvest received from southern seas.
Minister had instructed the secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Mangalika Adikari to stop importing relevant fish varities with the assistance of Finance Ministry.
According to the reports around 73,138 metric tonnes of fish had been imported to Sri Lanka during first six months of this year at the cost of Rs.23,026 million.
