Colombo High Court has yesterday (26) imposed a 22
month prison sentence suspended for 10 years to the 79 year old former female chief registrar of the court over cheating Rs.1.9 million received by the court through bails and fines.
The accused Chief Registrar had been ordered to pay a fine of Rs.13,500 and Rs.1 million as compansation to the court by High Court judge vikum kaluarachchi.
The accused had accepted that she was guilty over the charge of cheating the money received by the court on the period 1990-1993 .Earlier Attorney general filed charges on five persons including the female registrar over cheating money and later withdrawn charges against three persons.
After the lawyer appeared behalf of the accused former registrar shown that his client is sick and she already lost her pension due to the charges the court imposed a suspended prison sentence to her.ombo
